As Ben said, the site is fairly new and the community is relatively small. So game rankings will be all over the board for a while. Over time a lot of rankings will get closer to falling in line with normal website averages. In the mean time, make yourself useful and rate the games you've played (AND ONLY THE GAMES YOU'VE PLAYED)

I'm sure that over time the games rankings will be as respectable as unanimous internet rankings can be.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

remember if u look at the gamerankings top10 games the majority are on nintendo consoles =)

And does the Lord of the Rings RTS game get a 2.13 over at Gamerankings?

Ah, internet polls. Always 100% guaranteed accurate because you know everybody votes and only ever votes once.

Well i think I can at least explain the game rankings to you:

1) Ocarina of Time: According to Gamerankings (a non-biased site) this is the #1 game of all time according to reviews given by magazines and internet sites.

2) Mario 3: Has sold more copies than any other non-pack in game without multiple versions (ie. Pokemon).

3)Goldeney: Was the absolute best FPS of the Fifth Generation. Many people still have fond memories of playing this game with a bunch of friends.

4)Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition) Placed #5 at gamerankings for GC and until recently place #7 for the PS2. Anyone who had played the Wii version and the GC version knows that the controls for the Wii version are infinately better.

5) Super Mario World: It's a Mario game, and it's a damn good one. Not to mention it is the most recognizable game on the SNES. Most people rember the Star Road fondly.

6) Link to the Past: Arguably the best Zelda game in the franchise. Need I say more.

7)Twilight Princess: It shouldn't suprise you that there are three Zelda games in the Top 10, because Zelda (along with Mario) is easily the best sereis of games out there. It's the only series I know of that gets a perfect 10 from Gameinformer every time a new one comes out.

8)Mario 64: Placed #7 on Gamerankings top ten, and is considered the penicle of 3D platforming.

9)Crono Trigger: Is the most sought after gaem on the SNES. Anyone who has played it understands the depth and care put into this game. The fact that it sells for over $100 on E-bay almost 15 years after release is a testament to the quality of this game.

10) Final Fantasy 7: The only non Nintendo game on the list, and rightfully so. This game is probably one of the best RPG's to date in terms of story,. gameplay, and replayability.

I'd like to add one other thing. The reason Nintendo gets so many AAA titles is because they make so many AAA titles. It's not the fault of users here on VGchartz that their games are so damn good. Nintendo bias aside, no one can argue that because of thier ingentuity and quality software, Nintendo single handedly brought gaming to the mas market with the NES. They have also had over 20 years of expierience in the Console market, which means they have 10 years of additonal gamies in their library over Sony, to help them achieve multiple top 10 games.

In short no one is biased toward Nintendo, they just make quality games.

@seinster: Do you post about anything else? The only place where this bias seems really evident is in user-generated polls. The data isn't gathered by those people, and I feel like the majority of the people who post here are civilized and intelligent relative to the rest of the gaming web community (which is the cream of the crap for internet communities, but still). As a multi-console site focusing on who's "winning the war", there's a remarkable amount of communication between people who favor one console or another. In fact, the only time it seems to break down is when someone comes in and starts complaining about a percieved systematic bias, or how all the Nintendo fans are bombing all over anything non-Nintendo related. While there are a) more Nintendo fans here proportionally (for reasons already enumerated) and b) there are idiot-trolls (this is the internet), I find that, for the most part, Nintendo (and Sony and Microsoft) fans don't unnecessarily shit on each other here, and if they have something negative to say about another console or game on a console, it's not completely ridiculous.

So really, calm down.

@sinha: It is douchey to troll the ratings. I'm just not convinced that anyone pays any attention to the end result. It's a very different situation than say, rateyourmusic.com, because here it's really tangential to why most people come to this site.

Uh actually I'm not upset, so I don't need to calm down.  I was just posing a question, that's all.  I agree with you that this site is generally idiot-free.

What do you mean do I post about anything else?  I created this thread for a reason, if I wanted to talk about something else I would start another or respond to another thread.  Not sure what you mean by that.

The "calm down" and "do you post about anything else" were the result of having seen this thread and another post by you in quick succession where you talked about this site having a pro-nintendo bias.  As those were the only posts of yours I remembered, perhaps I arrived at that perhaps unfair, and not entirely serious assessment of the situation.

I don't really get why people care about the ratings so much.

Vgchartz top 10
Zelda OOT, Super mario bros 3, Goldeneye 007, RE4 Wii, super mario world, Zelda: LttP, Zelda: TP, Mario 64, Chrono Trigger, FF7.

I see nothing wrong with that top 10. It has a lot of nintendo games because they make fantastic games. Of the top 10 3 are shared with gamerankings, and RE4 is on gamerankings but is the cube version.

I would say all those 10 games are extremely high quality.

I would argee with other people though that the site probably recieves more votes from Nintendo fanboys because Sony and MS fanboys probably don't want to frequent a site which shows their system being outsold. Had vgchartz been around during the Ps2's dominance I imagine it would have been different.
I would also say though that a lot of the games there have extremely dedicated fans. Sure games like halo sell a huge amount and have fans who will play it for 6 months. But a lot of those people play the game and that is all. They will buy madden when it comes out and the next big shooter but they aren't going to go onto a games site and look at halo.

Turkish says and I'm allowed to quote that: Uncharted 3 and God Of War 3 look better than Unreal Engine 4 games will or the tech demo does. Also the Naughty Dog PS3 ENGINE PLAYS better than the UE4 ENGINE.

A lot more of the posters perfer Nintendo over PS3 or 360 I'd say. It makes perfect sense when you think about it.

It's a forum for Sales numbers. Who's more likely to want to be up on sales numbers? The console that's doing the best. The actual websites, numbers and articles arn't bias... just the forum and well anything that can just be posted on by anybody.

You know veteran, as a gaming forum, this site has suprisingly high average age, from what i have been noticing. Here are people, who have been gaming before you were born. So the people who are ranting about Nintendo being "kiddie", are the 15 year old PS fanboys, which i find ironic.

 100% Agree

Funny when people talk about the PSOne like the beginning of gaming...

I know that somewhere inside my heart, I felt that that was the end of gaming, beacuse I loved sprites so much that when the 3D games came around I felt that the magic was gone.

I really like lots of 3D games don't get me wrong, but there's something special on sprites.

In my personnal opinion, Samurai Showdown 2 is still the best fighting game ever

Stories generally be.. well, news ones, whatever is newsworthy. Wii has had retardedly good press for a while, but a post was made about a stock broker who advised people sell off Nintendo. Some people disagreed.

Ratings? I personally would give Gears of War a 5, and FF7 a 7. I can give you my exact reasoning for it too. Whether you agree is a different story, but I hope when people vote, they have their reasonings. No one will like everything.

It is not ioi (the guy who keeps this show going), it is the users. It's a sales site, since Nintendo is selling well, they feel like this is a good place to frequent.

QFT, this is absolutely the reason this site has a percieved Nintendo Bias.  Nintendo sales are constant positive news which equates to Nintendo fans being attracted to the site.

In reality if more people who come here like Nintendo it makes perfect sense for the Nintendo games to be rated high on those lists. This carries over to the forum, and pretty much every aspect of the site...with exception to the numbers.  The numbers are done impartially and it wouldn't make sense for them to be done any other way if you consider the fact that part of the appeal of any sales tracking site is accuracy.  So sacrificing accuracy just to make nintendo fanboys happy would be a very shortsighted thing to do.
