Forums - PC - My proposal for a replacement for the keyboard/mouse combo.

Personally, and I'm sure I'm not the only one, I don't like your idea. While it may sound convenient, I'm not sure if it's that accurate even for moving. The bigger reason, however, is the lack of buttons.

Oh, and you should really try binding the functions to other buttons. V, for example, is terrible for anything fast. Generally you bind the most used functions to the buttons that are the easiest to reach. You could also try using ESDF instead of WASD to have more space to the left as well, although I have never tried this myself. It can't be too different, though, as the buttons ESDF have the exactly same layout as WASD.

I despise having to use letter keys for anything in games.... the W isn't even above the S properly, which means your left hand middle finger has to be in an unnatural position.

The only proper game I play on PC is GTA.... and I set it up so that when driving, my right hand uses the arrow keys, but when walking I use the arrow keys with my left hand while my right is now on the mouse.

Are there any controllers that fit nicely into one hand? I'm thinking of the nunchuck style fitting into one hand, type thing.

you can use a nunchuck connected to a  Wii Remote connected to your PC. That wouldn't be too bad.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

^Hmm that seems like a good idea. One would need to invest in a Wii-mote, though.

I'll probably borrow one off a friend to see if it all works, or not (one assumes that the emu scene would have released some drivers for it by now).

Even if you can't find drivers, you can do it anyways. I use glovePie, and PPJoy, which lets you map input from a Wii Remote to whatever you want, however PPJoy is a joystick emulator.

All you need is a remote, nunchuck, and a blue tooth adapter on your PC.

Oh, sweet, I'll try that over the weekend.

well, it seems one of your problem is just getting used to it... I'm currently typing with my keyboard under the desk, I bet a lot of people also do it. I just know where the keys are. but yeah, in some games, it can be uncomfortable to hit certain keys. I, for one, haven't got and probably will never get used to using the C key to crouch, and sometimes it's still the easier mapping having it near the X key (usually used to prone)

the words above were backed by NUCLEAR WEAPONS!

^ I can type fine, I was saying that if many people struggle to do the very thing it was designed for, then, really, it's not going to be great for gaming.

Hell, sticking a little nobble on the S key would help me to find my way back to the movement keys after hitting one of the far-reachers.

intresting idea, im quite used to keyboard gaming now though, it would be weird using something else (if i want other controls, i have 4 consoles to pick from either side of my PC, lol)

My RPG, RTS, and FPS games tell your proposal to go to hell. They all need far more than the regular dozen or so buttons.

I used to be the same way but that was when I first started playing PC games.  I was so far in that direction that I hated the mouse so much that I wish I never bought a computer to begin with.  Well, it too some time.  Now I can't play console over PC.

It takes time.  So give it time.  Some people will never get used to it.  In that case, go back to your Wii  (no offense, I've got one too).

All I'm trying to say is that PC controls are perfect.  You just need to perfect them.
