Forums - Nintendo - Do you guys understand how important Madworld and The Conduit are?

I'm going to need convincing to get either.

Madworld looks fun but I think I'd find the gameplay far too samey after an hour or so. Maybe I'll get it when it's £10.

The Conduit doesn't look that amazing. There are stackloads of PS2 FPSs available for £5 or less which are probably better games.

I think your overstating the importance of these games to the sucess of Hardcore titles on the Wii.

If they both sold excellently then yes , that probably would be encouraging but you won't see 2X - 3X increase in the rate of harcore title release . If they both sold poorly it would be somewhat discouraging to the average developer but I still couldn't forsee a decline in the rate of hardcore titles being released for the Wii.

As the recession deepens and the Wii userbase continues to grow the console will increasingly be seen as a viable option , developers will have to take the same risks on the Wii that they do with high budget PS3/360 games.

Why would devs continuously milk a cow if they are not getting any milk from her? The answer is that they are not. They are gonna send her to the slaughter and start to milk a fresh cow with hugh utters.

Get my point?

Well as Benga said there are a few mature games that are doing at least decently on the Wii , it's not true that there's "no milk" as you put it . The important thing is there is potential , and as long as there is potential Developers will continue to risk it with hardcore titles on the Wii , I don't see it being that much more risky than a $20 million HD game for the XBOX360/PS3 . If done correctly the rewards will be huge , that's self evident.

If these games tank then you can forget about hardcore games on the wii. Devlopers are watching these games and the Conduit very closly. These two games are very important to the wii's future. We all have to go buy Madworld so we can send a message to devs that we want more than just mini game collections and pet sims on the wii. Plus Madworld is a good game from what i hear from early reviews.

I hear ya...you are saying to yourself that this guy is crazy, but i can assure you these two games are holding the future of hardcore wii games on their backs. Much like Atlas held the world on his back in greek mythology. Heck if Madword and The Conduit sell well then maybe Winter will finally get a publisher.

Define hardcore games because I have a thought that yours and my definition will probably differ.

Do you wnat me to say M rated games? I'm not that stupid. Hardcore games are games for gamers, not games for gamers moms and little sister. Ben 10 is not a hardcore game neither is wii music. Zelda is and so is believe it or not pokemon is a hardcore game. Madworld is a hardcore game and We Ski is not. 50 cent bullet proof is not a hardcore game, but 50 cent blood on the sand is kinda.....

But that doesn't really give me a definition but more of a comparison.  But I see what your getting at and that's the more PS1/N64 definition of what a hardcore game is which still exists today.  So yea I guess if these do poorly then those era of hardcore games might be less plentiful.

Its kinda hard to give a good definition of what hardcore games are. You either know or you don't.

Well on my site I'll be writing an interest article about the definition so don't worry I know.  Little do people know is there's a split in what it means.  It's changed over time but that's ok.

Either way Madworld and The Conduit are included in the current day "hardcore game" so I guess that's all that matters.

Wii Music is too hard for the 'hardcore'.

Yes.

www.spacemag.org - contribute your stuff... satire, comics, ideas, debate, stupidy stupid etc.

If developers (read: publishers) are that stupid then so be it, if they don't make a decent game because Madworld sold under 1 million then they don't get my money.

I am enjoying the games on the Wii immensely, and when I get some money my Wii library is probably going to exceed my combined libraries of my past systems (at least if you count VC as Wii titles) and will buy those games that interest me, of which there are many.

-----

Oh, and for those games... I am holding out on Madworld, not sure it's my type of game (I'm not against the violence bt I still don't really know what it involves, I mean is it like a hack and slash?)

The Conduit I will be buying, even if it is good to control but otherwise mediocre I think I will enjoy it... from what I have seen of it, the only thing really lacking is some decent art direction.... but I can live without that as I already have pretty games in the forms of Okami, Zelda, Metroid.

i understand how important they might be for Wii only owners, but i own a 360, and i will get Madworld because i will support platinum games, not because i want more wii core titles.

I'm getting both, and I'm sure hundreds of thousands of others will, too.

Add me for Pokemon, New Leaf, and Fire Emblem, Mario Kart 8.

Just remember that the developers of the conduit are expecting more than 10 million sales so it will be HUGE.
