Forums - Gaming - How Killzone 2 pwns Crysis and why I'm done with PC Gaming

You've heard it all before:

http://photobucket.com/images/crysis" target="_blank">http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/MaddMoose/crysis.jpg" border="0" alt="Crysis Pictures, Images and Photos"/>

"Zoh my gawwwwwwwwd! Look at that picture! It looks soooo Amazing! Crysis DESTROYS consoles kills them dances on it's grave and laughs in it face! LOLOLOL-... etc. etc."

But don't believe the hype. Pictures like the one above and the other really beautiful screens you've seen are almost never in game. I figured this out when I brought my copy of Crysis home it looked a little more like this:

Running at an amazing 20fps.

"That's because you have crappy rig! For less $500 you can make a gaming computer that PWNS and will run Crysis smooth as butter!" *inserts link to toms hardware article*

Well let's take a look at what kind of computer you'll need to run Crysis on full:

This guy manages to get Crysis running at an average frame rate of 51 fps. These are on very high settings and a resolution 1680 by 1050 and anti aliasing turned completely off.

Amazing. So what did it take to reach this mark? 4 Nvidia 9800 GX2's. And that's just the graphics cards. How much more for the high end quad core you will need? The power source? the mobo? The case? the ram? Vista 64? For the price of all this you could buy yourself an X-box 360, a PS3, a Wii, 4 controllers for each and still have money left over for games.

Now Killzone 2. No modifications no ordering parts from newegg. No building or overclocking. No checking for compatibility. This is Killzone 2: playing on a $400 (Soon to be $300) PS3 RIGHT OUT THE BOX THE GAME DOES NOT EVEN INSTALL ONTO THE HD:

To be fair let's look at the trailer for Crysis

Ugh (notice how the only part of this trailer which looks better then KillZone 2 is the FMV at the 50 second area). Clearly Killzone 2 is a better looking game but how is that possible?

1. The PS3 is as powerful as it promised to be. And "teh cell" rocks. (360 is also)

2. The jump to anything beyond what th PS360 can do graphicly is not just staggeringly expensive buy also frustrating (and boring imo) to create.

3. Prodution values. Studios and companies know that they can put money behind big budget project wiithout wondering if there are enough people with a sytem powerful enough to experience the game as it was meant to be played. No matter haw many polygons Crysis pushes the presentation of Killzone 2 will always be better because the producers had the time and the money to pay attention to little details (such as animation for example).

In that's why I'll never be investing big money into an expensive gaming reg again.

Ps. I realise you can do other things with a gaming rig besides gaming. So can a $200 dell.

Too bad PC controls are far superior, then.

Well, you've certainly got a good point.

I can get Crysis at about 31 FPS, on High, 1440x900, and 8x AA on my 1.25 year old computer.  It cost a little over a thousand at the time.  Plus comparing the costs of the actual machine are a bit of a moot point when I paid 10 times more for my TV than my monitor.  But I don't see why it has to be one or the other, I'll just have fun playing both.

Thank you, i reallly enjoyed your rant =)

Systems owned: NES, SNES, N64, PS1, PS2, PS3, Wii, Xbox360

Currently Playing: UNCHARTED 2 !!

Waiting for: FFXIII, GoW3, GT5, Mass Effect 2

You don't need maxed out settings and 16x AA to out-do the PS3.

For MS word perhaps but I prefer a gamepad so I can play on my couch.

So hook up your PC to your TV and play Crysis with a gamepad for some strange reason.

Killzone 2 is like an interactive action movie you play your self. Just follow the script. Crysis lets you change the script and play it in completely different ways.

Tease.
