Forums - Gaming - Shovelware? An experiment into Hannah Montana games.

I think I had more fun with the vocal mini game then any other gaming in the last year and for all the wrong reasons.  The game is Arkanoid complete with power ups except that you control the paddle with the pitch of your voice.  Lower your pitch to move left, raise it to move right.  Now the part that took this game from good to awesome for me was the paddle was looking for a specific pitch in a specific octave and in order for me to move the paddle I had to sing in falsetto.  Ridiculous?  Ridiculously awesome!

lol, this part just cracked me up. Good reviews though, and your results are about what I expected. Some games are trash, others are pretty good.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
In the past we played games. In the future we watch games. - Forest-Spirit

Awesome review! Can you do Grey's Anatomy for the Wii next? :D

No, just no.  Buying/playing these games wasn't so bad for me because there was a bit of a lull in games i wanted to buy but Amazon finally got around to delivering kz2 last night and i have no intention of looking back for at least a month.

i honestly believe that just that one mini game was worth my 20 bucks.  if there was a sequel Hannah Montana game that removed all the other stuff and was just a very complete rhythm game compilation I wouldn't think twice about buying it.

Awesome thread. Well done!

So owning lots of Hannah Montana and similar media makes you unbiased enough to review a Hannah Montana game?

I believe those 2 games sucked, which are the girls games that don't?

Wiifit, Nintendogs and The Sims are all i can think of. Oh maybe, maybe Greys Anatomy for Wii and DS

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

that's my arugument.  would it be fair for a guy who only likes action movies to review a chick flick?  not really because before the movie even begins the reviewer is turned off the the movie simpley due to the subject material.  if you want a fair review you should look to somene who enjoys the genre and has exprienced many other works inside the genre for a fair comparison.

okay, sure i haven't played any other girl game besides mary-kate and ashley: sweet sixteen - licenced to drive (http://vgchartz.com/games/game.php?id=1275&region=All) but i do consume a lot of the tv equivalents so at least i can play the game and judge it on it's own merits instead of just hating on the fashion/friendship/pop star themes that these game are built around.

think of it like this.  my gf hates HATES all of the following and thinks they are complete crap:  star wars, lord of the rings, anything animated (venture bros, aquateen, anime), everthing by jim henson, ect.  Is her opinion a fair one to use in judging the merits of these productions? no...and she really is the counter-equivolant for the kind of hate our forums share for much of the ds/wii libarary.

but hey, if you don't want to respect my review, that's fine by me.  i found my time with these games to be an interesting experiment and i wanted to share.

I dont think that HM is a good example in this case.... If you put Hannah Montana of a shiny peice of turd it will sell.... thats also the problem because that automatiaclly makes people biast... i would say that if the Music jam dint have the HM name it wouldnt sell as well but would be accepted by the games more warmly... because it does sound like it could be fun game from the review...

Well.... Games like Hannah Montana have gotten a bad rap for being cheap cashins.... now onforunantly games like Music Jam iventhough it might be good... it will never get the credit it deserves. I think that this trend was going on since the begining of video games.... games like back to the future, which were built to be a games that has nothing to do with the subject but had the brand slapped across their forehead. Ofcourse there will be games that will break the mold once a blue moon (Goldeneye) but still.... most of those games are creatred to be cashins and that will never change.

I know i might be stating the obveous here and im sorry :(

Back to the Future never deserved any credit though, that game was pure and utter crap no matter how you look at it.
