Forums - Microsoft - Is the Xbox 360 library about to take over the ps2 library as the greatest?

As someone that owns both a PS2 and 360, I have to agree with the OP. The 360 library seems much more diverse than that of the PS2. The only genre that PS2 has much better than 360 are JRPG and even in that genre, the 360 is doing strong. I sort of understand people claiming the PS2 has a better library if you like God of War or Metal Gear Solid.

So, PS2 has:
Shadow of the Colossus
ICO
God of War 1 & 2
Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3
Resident Evil 4
Gran Turismo 3-4
GTA 3, Vice City & San Andreas
Silent Hill 2 & 3
Okami
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Final Fantasy XII
Final Fantasy XI
Final Fantasy X, X-2
Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy
Burnout 3
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King
Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2
Rock Band
Guitar Hero
DDR

but the 360 has:
Halo 3
GTA IV
Bioshock
Call of Duty 4
Call of Duty World at War
Gears of War 1&2
Devil May Cry 4
Resident Evil 5
Oblivion
Fable II
Mass Effect
Fallout 3
Saints Row 1&2
Dead Rising
Viva Pinata
Left4Dead
The Orange Box
Braid
Castle Crashers
Rock Band (with DLC)
Guitar Hero (with DLC)
And will get FFXIII

I can respect the personal preference that the 360's library is like the PS2's, but there are enough 3rd party games on that list that are also on the PS3 that are just as good if not better.

I find it funny that people are trying their hardest to prove an opinion.

Agreed.

By the end of this gen the 360 will most likely be in the top 5 for best library....at least in my opinion....
That list also includes SNES, PS1 & PS2....those consoles had amazing games, and a lot of them, so I can see the 360 joining that group...

Who says the PS2 library is "greatest"? I can only think of MGS, SoulCal, Kingdom Hearts, Dragon Quest, and God of War as worthwhile exclusives (the exclusives in those franchises, I mean).

It isn't about exclusives, it is about the diversity in the games. A better library is not just one that appeals to you it is about the library that appeals to the largest amount of people.

Final Fantasy

God of War

Ratchet and Clank

Jak and Daxter

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

PS1 for the win ;) Greatest library ever (it even has some great SNES remakes)

In my opinion systems like the SNES and PS1 were the best for RPG fans, specifically the JRPG fan.

Oh my, how we need a nice little thread to just chit that about all of the awesomeness contained within those 2 generations when it came to JRPG's.

"If you don't like me, bite me!"

I posted a list of like 2000 games for the PS2 already lol. Compare that to the 500ish that the 360 has and you will see who wins :]

you're right.  Also, you should not consider the Wii because nobody owns it and you shouldn't consider the PS3 because the graphics aren't very good.
