Forums - Microsoft - People are actually buying Halo Wars not knowing that it's a RTS

I am surprised the kid want it to be returned because my 3 younger bros (ages 13-17) love it so much! too bad the retailer may not accept the opened box

So, the real crux of the post as I understand it.

The OP witnesses a copy of a game being returned by a parent and we are now to believe that the only reason Halo Wars is making any sales is because everyone thinks the game is a Halo FPS.

It suppose the game has no chance of making a sale on its merit then. Next time I pop into town I will make sure I bring a ladder to get over the heaps of returned copies of Halo Wars that will be clogging the streets.

That's quite the leap of logic.  Can you tell me where you got this information from the OP?  Because the OP looks like it is just saying that atleast one person has made the mistake and asks if anyone else did something similar, while you leap to the idea that he's saying no HW copies were bought legitimately.

I was not suggesting the original post said that as my reply was some 40+ posts into the conversation. I was referring to the original poster and subsequent posts which suggested this.

I was in EB Games today to ask how much they would be selling MadWorld for and was waiting behind a lady. I noticed she was holding a copy of Halo Wars and asking to return it because it wasn't a shooting game like her son thought it was..

I'm not on either side of the fence but it's obvious at least in one case that the Halo name is really selling Halo Wars even if people are unaware that it's a different type of game to the previous Halo's in the franchise.

So my question is this: What other games in history may have also had this effect purely due to brand name?

Have you seen the tv ad for Halo Wars? No gameplay shown at all.

To answer your question Final Fantasy. Most of the spinoffs with final fantasy in the name did pretty good.

FF Adventure, FF Legend 1-3 and FF Tactics.

Yes I have a feeling this will be one of the most traded in games we get just like SOCOM: Confrontation of the PS3 (online only and people didn't know). And just like a lot of the RPG's on the 360 because they buy into the hype but their mainstream gamers who can't handle those kinds of games so they get rid of them. Oh well I suppose.

Day One PsP Purchase, I got SPIDERMAN with it...

I popped it in and to my dismay... it was not sand box like the console version...

I was upset to say the least.. I mean I loved SPIDERMAN so much, that I just had to play it everywhere I went..

I went back to Toys R Us and tried to return it, the guy said they can't returned/exchange none broken games..

I said Fine.. it's broken, won't get to the 3rd lvl.. He popped it into my PsP and around the second lvl he just gave up and said ok, I'll exchange it..

I think i got Twisted Metal... instead.. lol

LOL !!

Won't happen. Gamestop doesn't seriously reduce the prices of their used games.

If they had 50 copies of a particular game is stock , it would be stupid not to . But then from what i've heard about gamestop I wouldn't be suprised if they didn't.

I bought Smackdown vs Raw 2008 expecting it to be amazing liek 2007 was, well i was wrong. I played it for a few day and tried to return it. I tried to srink wrap it again, but the lady at wal-mart caught me, so i blamed it on my little brother (i don't even have a little brother) saying he must have opened it and then i left. Sold it to gamestop for $25 dollars....what a waste.

Needless to say i did not buy 2009
