Forums - Sales - First Day Sales Japan 03/05

Japan is a different regional format and gets it own section on the sales charts. I personally would include Japan sales in Others. Japan sales seem very disappointing in particular the HD consoles. Week on week sales have proven this over the course of this generation. Game sales tend to be very front loaded in Japan and huge drop off and sell practically nothing after the second week onwards.

First Day Sales (03/05) [PS3] Resident Evil 5 (Capcom) - 222k [360] Resident Evil 5 (Capcom) - 56k [NDS] 7th Dragon (Sega) - 60k [PS2] Super Robot Taisen Z Special Disc (Bandai Namco) - 21k http://ameblo.jp/sinobi/entry-10219230414.html

Well its pretty good sales since resident evil 4 only did like 241000 when it came out on the ps2 and the ps2 had a way bigger user base.

May I say..slightly disappointing?

why not comparing to RE4? Then you may not be disappointed

Isn't the number for 7th Dragon a bit low ?

Some people here were thinking it will be huge and will steal away attention from HD consoles.

Am I the only one surprised by 7th Dragon? Was not expecting it to be that successful.

Comparing RE5 to RE1-3 is absurd. Compare it to RE4:

Most likely RE5(PS3+360) will = RE4(GC+PS2) in Japan when all is said and done. So at least the series is not in a decline anymore, despite being so heavily westernized.

And I expected more from 7th Dragon considering the DQIX delay. Still though, it did alright.

278k first day is bad? lol

From Sinobi:

The recently released "Resident Evil" first-day sales of related titles are as follows.

January 2005: GC "Resident Evil 4" 117k
December 2005: PS2 "Resident Evil 4" 145k
May 2007: Wii "Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition," 27k
November 2007: Wii "Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles" 53k
March 2009: PS3 "Biohazard 5" 222k
March 2009: 360 "Biohazard 5" 56k

Great start for RE5!

It says 231k for Biohazard on Playstation 3 if we take into consideration the bundles (so 9k bundles were sold on the first day).

I think the 231k is Yakuza 3 first week for comparison, I don't think he mentions bundle sales.

Wow, so much for RE5 sinking the series even lower in Japan. Almost beat RE4's first week on PS2 in one day and is on par with Yakuza.

Joke? I hope so...

Inside Joke, but nobody seems to be getting it.

I'm getting really frustrated by the people going loco when a Wii game does low numbers, but the same people talk positive about these sales while the development costs are probably 10 times as high as RE:4.

Also, people complaining about certain wii games getting sales they don't deserve. Well i know for one after playing the horrible demo, this game doesn't deserve these sales as well.

Silly people

And I'm getting really frustrated by the people going around calling every HD game a failure no matter how well it does when the same people are posting "ZOMG, this made a profit, maybe!" on every Wii game that sells over 200k.
