Forums - Gaming - Gamestop Stock Drops 13% Following Amazon Trade-In Announcement..

Amazon has rules about it - you HAVE to have the original box and manual to trade in. As a result, they won't come anywhere near taking Gamestop's crown.

It'll be more like the PSP vs. DS. Sure, it'll take marketshare, but that doesn't mean it'll slow Gamestop down any at all.

Yeah but who wants to buy a used game without the case and manual? I can understand that decision. It offers a level of quality to the used games they offer for purchase. I applaud them for that.

Meh. We just posted an article on our game hacks site. Gamestop can act like they are scared, but they aren't. Today, I just traded in 12 games for $150 of in-store credit with an extra 40 percent for 6 games or more. Most of the titles I didn't care for and wanted to sell but couldn't. Amazon won't offer specials like that, especially if you send it and it's less than perfect and they offer you a reduced rate. Wonder how that's gonna work telling them 'No way - ship my junk back' and see how that goes.

It is an awesome concept in theory, but won't amount to a hill of beans unless folks can see how much they'll get for games and not feel gypped.

I hope to see better trade in prices at gamestop now.

They offered me .50 cents for one of my ps2 games...what a joke.

Gamestop is the name of a company that was once Funcoland. Waldensoftware, EB, and so on merged with this company, and the Funcoland model became the foundation of their business model.

Ok, what happens if Toys R Us suddenly becomes a front end for trading in games? I am curious how Gamestop will manage this. Trade in games at Toys R Us, and get store credit.

But the fact that Amazon isnt the only one doing this. Best Buy and Toys'r'us is joining the used game market too.

I also here that WalMart might be joining it too. And we all know what would happen to GameStop if that happens.

Thankfully Play'n'Trade wont be affected by this at all since they accept almost anything from the 3DO to 360 in terms of games. I <3 Play'n'Trade, so much better than GameStop and pretty much every other used game companies.

Ah Funco. That brings back memories. That used to be the only way to trade games in.

good, maybe GS will have to offer decent trade-in prices now.

to me that looks really good, having manual and game case is easy. I mean who the hell doesn't keep that anyway.

But looking at the games I didn't see one for cheaper than $6.00 and most were above 10. Way better deals than the 2-3 dollars gamestop gives you. Plus you can spend it on anything you want. You get like amazon credit.

just need to have a box to ship in, cause you print off the free shipping thing. so grab a box laying around the house and ship it off.

Hmm... note on the bottom of the page, how they say that it's a 3rd party that deals with the games. Not to mention that many of the prices are comparable to GameStop, and they only take games for the same systems as GS. Sorry, but I don't see this working out too well, though I would like to see it work. It's still peanuts for games; it may be better when Amazon starts selling used games, and it won't (might not) be laughably cheaper. However, when a game still in pre-order for $39.99 has an $11 trade-in price, I'll remain skeptical...
