Forums - General - Anime for Beginners

So im having a little problem.  I have a friend who wants to get into anime.  I've been into anime for years.  Probably seen over 50+ different series'.  I cannot figure out what I should show my friend first.  All I ask is no mechs.  She isnt ready for it yet =P  Give me your recommendations!

she eh? Well let me see.

FMA has enough action and cuteness and humor to get kind of a full spectrum to see what she likes of it. And then go from there.

...

Yea I love FMA. Kinda mech, but its so good. lol

My apologies, I meant Full Metal Alchemist, and you're thinking of the other FMA. I thought it might lead to confusion but I decided to be lazy.

Other non Mech suggestions: Melancholy of Haruhi, Baccano!, Soul Eater, Natsume Yuichino.

Awful choices.  Good anime, but simply awful for someone who's new.

You should find out what kinds of movies/TV shows your friend likes.  Anime isn't a genre, it's a medium.  If she likes comedy then show her something silly like Love Hina.  If she likes action then Full Metal Alchemist is great.  If she likes romance then go with Fushigi Yuugi.

No mecha huh? Well that rules out my pick.

Personally i thought the Full Metal Panic season where it's more lighthearted and all jokes was a good entry way. Fumoffu or whatever.

Maybe start of with great movies like Princess Mononoke or 5 Centimeters per Second?

"And yet, I've realized that maybe living a "decent" life means you won't ever have a "good" life."

Case Closed. Nothing else for me to say.

Why don't you find out what she likes? If she likes vampires then certain ones will work, love certain ones, etc etc.

I suggest Blood Plus if she doesn't mind some blood.

Could use the universal starters DBZ and Naruto lmao.

my favourites are Death Note and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, either of thoose id would reccomend to anyone
