Forums - Microsoft - Inafune: Xbox key to Capcom's Western success

In spite of the platform's relative lack of success in the Japanese market, Capcom has made a push over recent years to support the Xbox 360 with titles aimed specifically at Western gamers. In an interview with Capcom's PR, Keiji Inafune—head of R&D and the brain behind the likes of Mega Man and Dead Rising—revealed how the console was key to the company's recent success in the Western market.

"I think I can only get away with saying this now, but I really thought that using the Xbox was the only way to break into overseas markets, and I took that hypothesis all the way," Inafune said. "I think the success of these two titles (Dead Rising and Lost Planet) was a major achievement for our company. That the Xbox 360 was such a big hit, and the products that we made for the overseas market were so well received was extraordinary."

The interview suggests that Inafune faced difficulty with plans to use 360 development as a way to break into the Western market, something which ultimately turned out to be successful. However, this seems to be changing for the company, as the majority of Capcom's recently released and upcoming titles, such as Dead Rising 2, are going multi-platform.

I think that just says that Capcom and Microsoft should become really, really, really close friends and share everything.

Capcom = Microsofts BFF?

Tease.

good for capcom. i don't mind them going multiplatform.

Not a 360 fanboy, just a PS3 fanboy hater that likes putting them in their place ^.^

This is what i have known all along and said many times............ its the 360's DOMINENCE in the western world that will ultimately lead the 360 to victory in the HD war.

Winning japan is simply not enough.

360's console lead in the western world= HUGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

And no amount of spin can change that fact.

Always love Capcom.

In my book, those two games were tremendous failures. I played both, and neither amused me for very long.

Lost Planet had sub-par graphics, god-awfully written and poorly acted script, and a difficulty that played like what should be the hardest on Easy.

Dead Rising was amusing for about 25 minutes until I realised I wasn't going to get anything different for the rest of the game.

I've been much happier with games like Resident Evil and Onimusha from Capcom.

When capcom releases japan on a disc, I'm happy.
