So PC is still first? Good, reading the thread title made me think that WoW suddenly imploded and stopped making revenue.

WoW = MMORPG

...

That said, Activisions' PC revenue (not counting WoW) came dead last at $99 million compared to the Wii at $400+ million

Huh?! WoW makes all of it's revenue on PC, so it counts for PC. Activision separating WoW revenue from the rest of PC means nothing. EA, for example, doesn't include digital sales of PC games or other non-traditional revenues on the PC revenue when they release their Quaterly reports.

Are they (kotaku) sure that MMORPG doesn't include the boxed versions? WotLK sold 2.8 million copies just in the first day. So there is still an extra month and a half of that, a year of CoD4, WoW, BC, all of Blizzards old games, couple months of World at War, and whatever other PC games Activision has. Maybe online sales don't count as part of the 99 million, but it still seems too low. Even if they only made $25 off each copy of WotLK and didn't sell a single collector's edition, then they made 71% of their revenue in 24 hours.

Xbox still not dead yet confirmed. Still competing with ps2 (and wii :P)

It's amazing World of Warcraft is pulling over a billion/year in revenue.

I used to play mmo's and it's quite curious... before wow became such a behemoth there were many mmo's being developed. Nowadays everyone is afraid of going against the billion pound gorila.

Current-gen game collection uploaded on the profile, full of win and good games; also most of my PC games. Lucasfilm Games/LucasArts 1982-2008 (Requiescat In Pace).

Alot of it has to do with Activision's biggest series, Guitar Hero.

Yeah, WoW is a serious cashcow. Imagine having 10m people paying you $100 each a year...

The only real competitor I can imagine to WoW would be a Pokemon MMORPG (and its a different demographic, so they can co-exist).

It would be interesting to see profits though - WoW would cost a metric-shitload to operate...

Total Operating costs for WoW from launch to last September was only $200M.

WoW is the video gaming's biggest cashcow ever.

That is misleading, those operating costs do not include any development cost.

Blizzard has a team of over 100 developers that have been working on WoW for now over 8 years ( actually I think the team is over 150 by now) and countless testers...

I remember last summer Activision CEO claiming that so far the total cost for Wow has been somewhere around 800 million $...

even if it cost 800 million, the net revenue last year for WoW is enough to cover it... and that's not counting any revenue from previous years.

I'm not saying it's not crazy profitable :)

I'm just putting in perspective the kind of investment a competitor would need to produce a comparable product...

Because at this point, lets face it, Wow is very polished...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

are there even any good activision games on ps3? i aint surprised really. we want good games.
