Forums - Gaming - Guerilla Games have made HISTORY!! Poor 1st Game TO Outstanding 2nd game!!!

I still like KZ1 - it just wasn't the Halo killer they hyped it to be.

Umm... I can think of tons of franchises where the first in the series wasn't much, then later games exploded in sales/popularity. How about:

Street Fighter 1 vs. 2
Grand Theft Auto 1/2 vs. 3
Call of Duty 1/2/3 vs. 4
Mega Man 1 vs. 2 (for the old-timers)

And that's just off the top of my head. Really, it's not THAT surprising. If you give a development team unlimited time, employees, and money to work with - yeah, they can probably turn out an improved game.

I really liked the first Killzone. However, it was obvious that the game was overly ambitious for the PS2. You could tell the developers were constrained by the system's limitations. The game was also unfairly dubbed a "Halo killer" VERY early on which meant the game would never be judged on its own merits. I'd love to see a remake of the first Killzone with updated graphics and maybe the addition of the cover system.

Keep this in mind when reading what I type...

I've been gaming longer than many of you have been alive.

I'm sure many studios start out somewhere with a mediocre game. This is the most obvious one though, and a rare case of a sequel greatly outshining it's predecessor.

GTA did it before ^^

ok I dint knw tht

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

The GTA jump from top down 2D to 3D was pretty astonishing. Complete overhaul of almost every aspect of the game pretty much wins this debate and the amazing sales seal the deal.

Maybe give KZ2 some room to breathe and let it take it's place in the history of videogames, wherever that may be.

Playing: Borderlands(great co-op,HUGE amount of content),Too Human(better late than never lol),Saints Row 3(Penetrator ftw),Minecraft 360,Harry Potter Lego.

Patiently waiting for:  Tomb Raider, Borderlands 2

IMO the only reason why KZ2 is where its as is because Sony has no big blockbuster games so you guys hype the game and hope its a big hit,and im gonna say R2 was/is one of the best PS3 exclusive games, and its funny a while ago PS fanboys said that PS brand dosent require one good game to sell, but yet you hype the one game.

KZ1 wasn't spectacular, but it was a pretty good game, overall. For the PS2, it was really good, actually.

If you haven't played KZ1, don't knock it based on the reviews. It was one of the best console shooters of the last gen, and one of the best FPS games on the PS2. The fact that games like Halo/Halo2 overshadowed it were frankly due mostly to hardware differences, IMO. For what it was, and the platform it was on, KZ1 was a dang good game.
