Forums - Gaming - Future: Nintendo could be only video game seller and have monopoly

The way things are going MS and Sony are killing each other off in the video game industry.  Both Sony and MS could exit video game industry due to shareholder backlash over making huge losses in gaming business. Sony and MS may need to focus on their other more profitable business sections: electronics and PC software respectively.

Sooner or later Nintendo will be more than likely the only competitor in the console industry. That could mean the Wii will last forever and ever and sell billions of consoles. I believe at one point in time Nintendo were the only competitor in the console market back in the NES days. So history could repeat itself in the future.

Feel free to argue on this subject.

Console gaming would be dead if that happened.

Nintendo = the worst of the 3 console makers.

I'd have to become a PC gamer.

No.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

I think this could happen certainly. We are talking about multinational conglomerates who have plenty of other products making more money

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

To a certain extent I agree with you. I mean with all that fcuking Kiddy Crap that takes up the majority of their game catolouge I would be very sadden if I could only find a decent amount of M-rated games on the PC.....In fact if Sony AND Microsoft were to leave the gaming industry as Hardware Makers I think I would leave with them.

To be honest It seems to me that Nintendo has been re-hashing games for decades....I mean its been what 20 years and I still cant get a complete sentence outta Mario and most of their mascots and Best games?

Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

Is this some kind of joke cliche post? Also: you forgot to insult the elderly too.

No it won't happen. Gaming has gotten too big and another competitor would take a stab at the market.

Another thing is that if it did happen then guess where EVERY game would go. I mean every single third party game would be going to Nintendo's next generation system and with no competition Nintendo could definately make a more expensive more powerful machine as it wouldn't have to worry about the 'cheapest console' card.

I think if it did happen, it'd probably be the best console the gaming market has ever seen in terms of library.

Again. It won't happen.

This makes no sense. MS is already turning a profit and Sony will soon be turning a profit not to mention the PS3 indirectly is the reason why Sony will be getting royalties off of Blu Ray sales for many years to come. So neither company will leave the industry.

But even if they were to leave the industry, which eventually could happen though not anytime soon, it is pretty basic economics as to why Nintendo wont be the only competitor. With MS and Sony out many other companies will jump at the chance to get in the video game industry because demand for the non Nintendo gaming will still be there. If any of you really think Nintendo will be the only console maker left you are either retarded or under educated.

Were am I suposed to play Gran Turismo then?
