Forums - Sony - Sony: 'Some fairly major, triple-A PSP titles TBA in the coming months'

Your being paranoid then Gamerace, PS3 already has huge support for the PS3 from first and 3rd parties so a few big PSP games simply means they want the console to sell. I see nothing wrong with that especially since the development of a PSP game must be a fraction of a PS3 game so Sony can throw money at the big franchises.

Gran Turismo on PSP would do 2 million easily even after piracy, one would think that would be a nice profit for Sony.

Major new info about new, unannounced triple-A PSP games - I'll update the OP as well:

PSP head of marketing John Koller told MTV Multiplayer in an interview that “Assassin’s Creed” PSP won’t be a port of “Assassin’s Creed 2.” And he gave a little more insight into other newly announced PSP games.

Several major PSP hits-in-the-making were announced earlier this week, but Sony’s head of PSP marketing in North America, John Koller, told me that we don’t even know the half of it.

The announcements we made are half the story,” Koller told me in an phone interview on Thursday. “There’s another half still to be announced in the next couple of months-slash E3. A lot of first and third-party titles that are coming in the back half of the year want to hold their announcement until E3 timeframe. There’s a few pretty ‘majors’ coming still in that franchise line, but we wanted to whet people’s appetite.”

After what Amar said on the GT forums I am willing to bet my remote controlled car that GT Portable is in production.

there is still Elder Scrolls Travels and posibility of Valkyria Chronicles Portable(i just hope Sega will consider this).

I wouldn't bet against it.

Well, after the infamous PSP E3 cock-up (when Sony mistakenly showed Valkyria Chronicles for PSP), SEGA said they were pleasantly surprised by the reaction, and it's something they would consider in the future.

But Valkyria Chronicles isn't a major franchise. Not even close.

That's exactly the thing.  GT on PSP would sell 2m and make a nice profit.  With PS3 in last place and GT5 having a 5 year development cycle it's profit margin will be very limited - especially from what the initial expectations would have been when they began.

Sony exists for one thing - profit.  If they can make more profit off of selling PSP and PSP games than PS3s (which lose them money) and PS3 games (which are tremendously expensive compared to PSP) then business wise it makes more sense to shift the majority of their resources that way.

With Sony merging SCE in with other divisions it's like saying the PS brand is no longer the dominate focus just one of many Sony brands in a field.  And right now, above all else, Sony needs to achieve profitability.   And it's starting to look like Sony is seeing the PSP as being able to deliver that - but not necessarily the PS3.  We'll see at E3.  If 90% of new games announced are PSP then you know the PS3 is being unofficially retired.

Hmm so AC won't be a port! It will be a different game, this is great news.

Gamerace, there's already tons of PS3 exclusive games announced, I don't see these new PSP games affecting the PS3 titles ^^ Sony have a lot of studios.

RPG: What Amar (who is he?) said?

GT5 already paid itself, the GT5:P already covered the devs cost easily, PS3 looks to have its best year game wise so far, i dont see it slowing down at all.

You're not considering development time.   PS3 games take 3-4 years to develop.  Killzone was already in development long before launch.  Same with GT5.  So this years line up was committed to when Sony (and others) expected great things of the PS3.  PSP development time is about 18 months.  So about 12 - 18 months ago Sony decided to invest heavily in PSP.  But is it instead of the PS3 or as well?  Either way this surprisingly large commitment to PSP must come at the expense of PS3 development.

You just won't notice any drop in the number of PS3 games for another 1-2 years because of it's longer development time.

Good point about: GT5P
