Forums - Nintendo - If you have PLAYED Halo 1/2 AND PLAYED MP3, need your thoughts on 2 things

Please, no trolling... I've asked a similar question before but I want to know more about the graphics since online video clips never tell the full story. I would appreciate input ONLY from those that have played both Halo and MP3 at this point. If you troll this thread, I'm going to snipe you -- hard and fast. How would you compare overall graphics in terms of environment, textures, resolution, jaggies, framerate, etc. of Halo 2 versus MP3? Halo 2 was a fairly nice looking game last gen... Give me your opinion if you have played it. I'm about 90% convinced I'm going to buy this game but the reviews still concern me a little -- not the score, but the design of levels.... Some have said it is a departure from previous metroid games in that back-tracking and exploring is reduced rather significantly. Others state the opposite. From Gamespot: "All told, even though Corruption's easier battles and conservative design sometimes seems like less of a sprawling Metroid adventure and more of a straightforward first-person shooter..." From IGN: "...and the re-traversal backbone that has powered Metroid projects since the NES classic that started it all remains completely and thankfully intact. So if you've never liked these titles, Corruption probably isn't going to make you a believer" And then Game Trailers -- the middler" "Backtracking was something that received a good deal of criticism in Prime 2, and to a lesser extent, in the first game. It’s definitely present in Corruption, and it wouldn’t be a Metroid game without it, but with succinct levels and maps, it’s struck a near-perfect balance." Backtracking/wandering in search of something drives me nuts. There was some of it in Halo 1 and I almost quit the game because of it. I can't stand Twilight Princess for that very reason. Gimmie some hands on in the graphics department and the true "wander" factor...

Quick question. Have YOU played Metroid Prime 1 or 2? Because the Metroid series is nothing like Halo at all (I've played Prime 1 and Halo 2). It's more like the whole game is one giant Zelda Dungeon.

Yes, I tried them both but didn't spend much time because I don't like the "zelda-like" adventure.  I do like FPS type games, though, and if the "zelda-like" has been reduced significantly in the game, I'll be fine with it... The reviews are all over the map on the topic, however.

But even if it's been somewhat toned down, it's still a major element of gameplay. If you're looking for a Halo like shooter and not a Zelda dungeon with shooting in it game, you're going to want to take a pass at this.

The shooting MIGHT have been upped but the 'zelda-like' elements you mention are still there. If you don't like to explore, solve puzzles and back track this game is not for you.

I see only one thing that is a similarity to the Halo franchise - you see the game in first person. You don't even weild a gun that shoots bullets. You shoot electrical charges/ice/lava laser etc. I have a friend who doens't like Metroid at all just because it doens't have real, or close to real, guns.

You don't even have a choice in Prime 3 - just one fat stacakable arm-canon. Metroid is what describes my gaming tastes but not everyone's tastes is the same.

IGN - 9.5

It is a hardcore game through and through. You will get your ass kicked by bosses. You will be stumped by the sometimes complex, but never overbearing, exploration.

hrmm.. I must admit that's the one part I'm not thrilled with. The whole stackable weapon part. I loved the different weapons in Prime 1.

Apparently, I was not allowed to respond. I did not anwser the question asked to people who have played Halo/MP, but I did try to clear up the backtracking complaint.

I played Halo for the PC.

Don´t be concerned, just buy it. I´m not going to compare both games with each other... well you do shoot lots of stuff. MP3 does look much better than Halo2 (its been a while since I played Halo2 though, but MP3 just looks fantastic by any standard) The games are very different in both how you fight and what you fight, but both are great at their own game. The boss battles in Metroid are great, just a real great experiance.

You will love this game for the controlls alone, I never got used to the Red Steel or Call of Duty controlles and was really scared the Wii wouldn´t get a great shooter... but thats history. If Red Steel 2 copys these controlls I´m going to get that as well.

I love both Halo and Metroid, not because they are similar games but because they both do what they do best and never try to be anything they are not.

Eventhough its a sin I will compare some stuff in the games, they are both fast action packed, super fun alien killing übergames that are just plain fun.

If you listen to the IGN review, you will notice that Bozon liked Metroid Prime 3 because it IS more of an action shooter game. He was never a fan of the Metroid series, until he tried out MP3. He even says it has a *shudders* Halo feel to it, in a good way.

I wouldn't worry about the back-tracking, if that is your biggest concern. I really think Metroid Prime 3 is the CLOSEST you could compare Metroid to *gulp* Halo.

Wait, that's not what he said at all. he said he didn't get into the Metroid Prime series till about a year ago, But once he finally tried it he fell for it BIG TIME. So he did go in as a huge Metroid Prime fan.

why do the graphics matter so much? theyre pretty much the best graphics on the wii, the backtracking is reduced. buy it. Surely a game getting 9.x in EVERY review tells you its pretty much an essential purchase.
