I beat him by just dodging to the side whenever he attacked and mashed X(i think that the button on the left?)

Yeah but that's easier said than done for most people... How many times did you die before beating him? Of course if you play a lot of games in this genre it gets much easier. Though this is one of the fastest ones so that alone doesn't do the trick.

In any case, your strategy doesn't really qualify as button mashing in my book. For me, button mashing consists in just getting near an enemy, mashing some buttons (sometimes without even knowing the move patterns) and with nearly 100% probability will kill him without getting much hurt. Almost no blocking or dodging needed. There are games which can be mostly passed by doing that, while in NG you can at best barely pass the first batch of enemies with this strategy.

I only died twice on him. Then again I do play a lot of games in this genre. What boss is what you explain button mashing to be? None in God of War. Also any none boss baddies in NG2 can be killed with just the top button.

Oh I consider button mashing differnt for action adventure, what you said, i feel is fighting. Action adventure button mashing is when just pressing one button over and over again and you can kill most baddies in a game. Certainly not the case in GoW when you consider all the huge things that but rape you, and the gorgans turning you to stone.

Is it just me, or does the bloom ruin those screenshots for anyone else?

Definitely.  Seems to get worse in every shot.

I don't see why people are getting mad at GoW being called a button-masher.  Heck, all you do in Tetris is move and rotate falling blocks and that's lots of fun.  I don't need stupidly overcomplicated game mechanics for fun.

@Sharky54: I'm not debating sales or appeal here, I'm debating the button mashing issue.

For reference to those who haven't played the game, this is the boss which I was talking about. This is on the second level mind you...

Button mashing in Ninja Gaiden 2 my ass!

this video gave me a headache , what's wrong with the camera?

All you do in Mario is jump (although spinning/fireballs/etc. are only extras), and most people enjoy that more than any hack'n slash game.

Video gaming is nothing but a bunch of button mashers.  GOW is no different then any other hack'n slash, fighter, platformer, FPS, adventure game, they all result in you mashing some amount of buttons to perform some on screen acrobatics.  As the video game industry has shown time and time again, more complicated games are not always better.

1) the game is not close to many hearts... #1 sold 3M and the others less and less....

2) the pictures shown would have me believe that GoW2 was better than 3..... the images of 3 are full of blur....

(I like the games though, I have all 3 ^^)

did everyone miss this or am i just being delusional here??....he just said he has all 3...wtf???....now i wonder if he even has ONE of them....and game is not close to many hearts??...usually a hype will tell you how close it is in many hearts...and the hype is pretty damn big....as much as i hate the GoW series...it is indeed in hearts of many...

Is this the new Ninja Gaiden vs. God of War topic?

Can I play?

Also it is amazing how much better God of War II looks when compared to the original, that is crazy.

I don't own 1 2 or COO, However I played the 1 and 2, and I have the cell phone version lmao. (Id say its close to my heart, I just had no money when they came out)

And game wise?

GoW 1 ~ Linear button smashing with bosses.
GoW 2 ~ Linear button smashing with bosses.
GoW 3 ~ Linear button smashing with bosses?

Uhm...

Yeah, same can be said for example about GeoW serie(Linear hide&seek shooting.) too, but anyway as long as mainstream crowd is full of graphic whores this will continue. /me shakes his head

Anybody who has played God or Titan difficulty understands that button mashing gets you creamed. *shakes head*

God and Titan difficulty is like a different game and the most enjoyable moments for me was them :)
It makes you feel it's real...

Show me strategy game that you can play by just mashing some buttons. ;)
