Capcom’s Jun Takeuchi has said that Resident Evil 6 will see a complete overhaul for the long running Survival Horror franchise.

While not going into detail, the Resident Evil 5 producer revealed to 1up that the series will receive a complete reboot whenever the company decides to churn out a successor to the co-op based horror romp.

From 1up: “In what is destined to be the first genuinely epic game of 2009, Resident Evil 5 is practically guaranteed to be the last of its kind, with the game’s producer, Jun Takeuchi, assuring us that a reboot is in order for the inevitable Resident Evil 6.”

It’s interesting to note that, providing Capcom keeps to its word, the current incarnation of Resident Evil (by this we mean the 'over-the-shoulder' perspective introduced in RE4) will have lasted only two games, as opposed to the ‘classic’ formula, which survived from RE’s inception in 1996 through to Resident Evil Zero in 2002.

Hmm.. It sounds like.. well they don't have too much confidence in resident evil 5 if you ask me.

i know people moan about controls

but i think il get resi 5 a week after socom.

Well i haven't found one that i thought should replace it yet which is why actually. It'll probably be tekken related. I'm not certain yet though.

Bad news. Imo they have a successful formula, and I loved Res Evil 5 (demo) and its controls.

Well I hope that take a step back to review where the series is headed and what possible turns they could take to improve it. Hopefully we will see it either as a shooter (with proper controls) or returning to the genes as a horror title with ... well atleast close to real zombies :p.. and many unknowns about what's happening and why. Etc. It's very needed in such a game to keep it exciting. Element of surprise. What do you think ?

Good to hear that there will FINALLY be a reboot. The rivalry between Chris and Wesker can't last forever, can it?

I assume that they'd considered all the events from RE0-5 have never happened in RE6?
