FF8 had more than 4 or 5 characters using guns and it was still amazing.

If we don't give it a chance how will we ultimately know whether or not we will like it?
We can dislike the direction it is going but that doesn't necessarily mean we will not like the game as a whole.
Let us worry about what we pick up and what we don't.

if this game is all guns and stuff, I will boycot SE. as simple as that.
im f-ing tired of every game becoming a shooter and bullcrap like that. first RE5. i swear, i will not buy this if it sucks like 12 did. it was an extremely nontraditional RPG which i hated -_-

Heh...Final Fantasy is something that can't be compared to other games in that...
Its easy to look at Fps or Adventure games and say I don't like it and I'm not buying it..
Final Fantasy has shown every time it is great game.Sure when we fans have been waiting for 5 years,we can afford to lose 60€..
Take my love, take my land..
Can't comment on the weapons (read: guns) but perhaps I can comment on the darkness in the trailer.
I think the (dark) city in which the trailer's from is not the where the whole game will be set, I'm sure a lot of it will be more cheerful and outside the city...
hopefully...

About the "dark setting" .. it seems like some of you have already forgotten all the previous trailers, like the ones from E3 2006 and E3 2008.
The idea here is that "Cocoon" is a futuristic sci-fi like city. While the Pulse is medieval vast land with monsters and all.
Anyone know if this game is going to follow a game like XII and completely do away with love stories?
My girlfriend absolutely loved FFIX, she loved it because of the romance in it. Now she is working on X and will then move onto VIII.
She won't touch XII though because all romance it pretty much removed. I personally enjoy my romance stories as well.

Trailer looks good. I wonder if SE has been influenced by games such as Gears/Fallout etc that all have a lot of firearms and relatively bleak settings and have seen huge critical and commercial success. Maybe SE just thought FF needed to be up-to-date.

Trailer plays mainly in the futuristic seclude city (inside the cocoon). It reminds me of Midgar from FFVII. In the early part of the game you mainly fight soldiers with firearms, their watchdogs and robots with firearms and other devastating attacks. So, nothing is too dark or futuristic imo so far. Also considering the fact that outside the secluded metropolis , the world is not advanced(like Gaia in FFVII), FFXIII will feature also fantasy places and such.
I like romance in RPGs. The one in FFX is superb. Though I prefer when you are not forced and instead have the choice of the companion or no companion at all, like in the Star Ocean series. I think it´s about time FF introduced role-playing outside the battles and side-quests.

It was so nice going on a date with Barret.
Even if it was forced, the love story in FFX was very good. Even if this makes me look less "manly", I will admit the ending to that game caused me to shed a few tears.
