I know many will hate me for this, but just for fun I did an edit of how MGS4 could look on the Wii.

| fazz said: I get what you are trying to say twestern. Ok, let's put it like this: Let's think of two painters. One is your average Joe and the other is Savador Dalí. Joe has Photoshop, Maya, 3D Studio Max, Flash, what not. Salvador has only some canvas, oils and pastels.
And Dalí creates this:
So, who's the best artist? As you can see, it's not always about available resources. And yeah, the Wii could do 720p, but at the expenses I said. If Nintendo ever unlocks it, I don't expect anything above 30fps unless heavly toned down. But it would be uber nice for the Internet Channel, don't you think? |
While reading these posts regarding artists and the tools they have available, I got some NES music playing in my head. And I thought of an orchestral rendition of some of Nobuo Uematsu's compositions on the original NES. It was really cool to see how a pair of square waves and a triangle wave translated into a full orchestra. Still, when you go back and listen to the NES version, all of the musical subtleties are still present.
Yes, art style does make this a visually impressive game, but there are also technical aspects that make it beautiful as well.
Taken from Gametrailers review:
Easily the most visually impressive Wii game, it can hold its own against any title on any other platform. It runs like greased lighting, never pausing or stuttering, despite whipping the poor little Wii’s processor into a tizzy. Not to say it’s not technically impressive, though. It’s pushing loads of geometry, all while displaying incredible particles, transparencies, bloom, and much more. It’s one of those games that looks better and better the farther you go, motivating you to turn that next corner to view the next breathtaking vista.
Loads of geometry, incredible particle effects, transparencies, bloom, etc. Sounds like next-gen graphics to me. I'm not saying it's on the same level as PS360, but it's certainly not 'last-gen' either.

I think it's interesting that this thread came out the same week as Bioshock hit stores. By all accounts this possible game of the year contender couldn't do it without the stunning atmosphere that pervades the game, and that same atmosphere couldn't be done on the wii's hardware. Part of what makes games like Metroid and Super Mario Galaxy possible is how they're based in non realistic locations. Corruption's alien worlds are fantastic, but were Samus to walk down a current day city street that street wouldn't look nearly as realistic as it would on another system.
I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.
Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.
Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!
Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Possible Wii Version (right click... you know): I'm obviously exagerating on the low-resolution of the textures, but it ain't THAT impossible. Heh ![]() |
God I wish Konami would do that. Metal Gear with Wii controls would be sick. Maybe they could bundle in MGS3 like they did with Twin Snakes.

In my opinion the focus on the artistic aspect of a title is something that is severely lacking with most devs these days. It's always good to see games released that break from that tradition.

Some just can't accept the fact wii can't do graphics anywhere near as good as the other consoles, damn you reality why are you so harsh. There are great looking 2d games on PS1, good art can be done on just about everything.

Go away troll.

To keep things even, the Wii needs to be compared to its contemporaries. After all, back in the day the Saturn was slammed for its poor 3D performance while the PS was slammed for its poor 2D performance, completely ignoring the strengths of each system. It's just the way things work. The graphics for MP receiving a 9.5 was probably just IGN hedging their bets. Right now, it's pretty hard to give a Wii game a perfect score in graphics when you just finished playing Bioshock and are bombarded with screenies of Halo 3, Lair, Heavenly Sword, Assassin's Creed, CoD4, and Mass Effect on a daily basis. |
Let's also remember this is a 1st gen game, and even better looking games will follow, so they had to leave some room to improve.
| stof said: ummm. That's because both those games have some of the best art direction in gaming. Okami on the PS2 can stand next to most games on the 360 and PS3 for that reason. However, with the same level of art direction, a PS3 or 360 game could blow past anything on the Wii. |
Agreed, what I've seen on SMG looks really good, but from a hardware standpoint, outshining a PS3/360 isn't really possible. Don't flame me for just stating the obvious either.
Definitely making my brother get this so I can play it ;)
