Forums - Gaming - Why I want Final Fantasy XIII to bomb

I think it's absolutely crazy about how divided the FF fanbase is. People are in love with FF 12 and some hate it with a passion!

The FF fanbase consists of:

FFI-XII fanboys

Whiny bitches because one FF isn't like the other

Those who can't shut their mouth up about certain things

Noobs who hate a FF because it doesn't meet their expectations

Thats the FF fanbase for you.

What if the game is actually good though? Hypothetically of course.

Apparently, he has already determined it to be a bad game. You know, not having played it of course. But he knows...

Just like people can assume it will be a good game, I can assume it will be a bad game until proven otherwise.

  • The main character is described as being Cloud but a chick -- nothing says sellout more except...
  • They are already planning ten years of spinoffs -- tells you they are interested in nothing other than cash.  Rather than giving us a memorable story or interesting characters, they're just giving us a female Cloud and hope that keeps people interested.
  • The game has had delay after delay after delay -- It's not completely unorderinary for a game to have a delay, most do, but this one has had delay after delay after delay.  It could be for the better, but it could also be because the game is one giant clusterfuck
  • They care more about how the game looks than anything else -- Unless I'm mistaken (and I could be) just about everything told to us has been about eye candy or future spinoffs.  I don't play Final Fantasy games for eye candy, I play them for interesting characters and a good story.
  • The last few games have been bad, why would this one be good?  They could always pull a FFIX on us but you can't really expect anomalies.

What about FFIV Ds, that was good game. Sure it's a remake, but it's a good one.

FFXIII isn't a remake of a good game, it's a spinoff of a spinoff (FFXII) of a spinoff (FVIII) of a mediocre at best game (FFVII) with more spinoffs planned.

Ok this is where you push completely out of reason. FF XII, FF XIII, FF VIII, and FF VII do not have anything to do with each other than being developed by the same company.

And the game hasn't been delayed too much. I don't recall Square themselves giving a date. Just magazines and websites telling us when they think it'll come out.

I see now where our differing views on the ff main series comes in. IMO, FFIX was the worst one in the series that I've played and that was supposed to be the retro FF. This is why I usually assume that I won't like the FFs before FFvii. FFVIII was my first FF though not FFVII.

Wait

You haven't played the classic FFs?

All of the FFXIII spin-off's arent all the same.  FFvsXIII part of the "spin-offs" you mentioned.  They're part of the FNC Project, which consists of like 6 or something FFXIII games, all different.  FF Agito XIII, Versus, and FFXIII itself are all different with their own storylines.

Would you mind explaining that, because I'm about ready to call bullshit

That was more me being bitter and sarcastic but sure--

  • FFVII -- it's not as great as everyone says it is.  The story was bland and the characters weren't good yet somehow Cloud became the model for every future hero of the series.
  • FFVIII - Hey guys, I have a good idea, lets make an even quieter Cloud that's also kind of a dick!
  • FFX - Well we made a Cloud that's kind of a dick but not as many people liked that one so now lets make a Cloud that's kind of whiny
  • FFXII - Well, I think we struck GOLD with making the last Cloud whiny, so lets multiply the whiny factor 10 fold this time, completely get rid of the quiet, in fact, he should never shut his fucking mouth, make him almost a woman, and make him dumb as a brick.
  • FFXIII - Well the last Cloud worked for us, what can we do this time?  I know!  Make him actually a woman this time.

Delay isn't the problem, it's the development cycle and how long we've been waiting. Ever since the NES we've gotten three full-fledged Final Fantasy games per generation, and this go-round we're looking to have one. That's not acceptable.

I hope FFXIII is good.  I hope it bombs if it isn't good.

I won't buy it new, because I'm annoyed at the delay of the PS3 version while SE build a 360 version.

Square Enix has been taken down two pegs this gen already, due to the underwhelming quality, I guess, but especially the average sales of the games they've released so far this gen.  But hey, it was their business decision where to release them.

Too bad Squall, Tidus, Cloud, and Vaan are nothing alike

I didn't play, FF6, yes, kinda feel bad about it, too. Tried to play it on emulator, but couldn't pull of blitz.

Unfortunately, my FF experience started on ps1.
