Forums - Gaming - Why I want Final Fantasy XIII to bomb

Here's the problem Twesterm.

Ignoring all arguments to the contrary... even if you are right.

All the magic makers are gone. They've all been run out of SE by Wada. Even Matsuno who was only apart of games you hated. (Depending on your opinion of Final Fantasy Tactics.)

They weren't willing to go with Squares "Care only about the money" philosophy.

Even Matsuno who admitted that games like FF Tactics and Vagrant Story were attempts by him to dumb down and simplfy the stories of his previous games so more gamers would like and buy them.

The magic makers are gone. Even if they decided now to go back to creativity and good story first.... who would make it?

No offense dude, but you have no clue.

Yoshinori Kitase, Hiroyuki Itou, Kazushige Nojima, Tetsuya Nomura, Yoshitaka Amano, Shinji Hashimoto, Akitoshi Kawazu, Toshiro Tsuchida, Masashi Hamauzu.

Are just to name a few. Although I guess ironically these names dont tell you anything.

i dissagre. final fantasy have not been shit for the last 10 years, it have never been shit it have always been the best rpg franchise well at least for me, but in the end is about tastes so if you think that well thats your opinion. but maybe the FF games have sold so much because people think is not shit and actually like it? and i dont think is fault of the series that people dont buy others rpgs you cant just blame the FF franchise for that.

If FFXIII would bomb (As in selling less then a million combined (not going to happen)) then people would probably stop making JRPGs. Let's hope it sells well!

The OP sounds about right to me. I see FF7 as the sellout point for Square. It was hugely hyped up for the graphics, and after seeing what pretty pictures did for their sales, it's all the FF name has meant ever since. I've been waiting for a commercial failure in the FF line for a while, and I think 13 really has a good shot at being it. Yes, Square does need to go back and realize what made the older games good. And it will take a bomb to do so. It's sad, really, when I loved the FF series so much in the (S)NES days, and now I really don't care for it. It's let the DQ series grow on me instead. However, with S-E's slowness in getting those out, they may lose me as a customer permanently to Atlus. But that's for another thread...

What if the game is actually good though? Hypothetically of course.

Apparently, he has already determined it to be a bad game. You know, not having played it of course. But he knows...

Just like people can assume it will be a good game, I can assume it will be a bad game until proven otherwise.

  • The main character is described as being Cloud but a chick -- nothing says sellout more except...
  • They are already planning ten years of spinoffs -- tells you they are interested in nothing other than cash.  Rather than giving us a memorable story or interesting characters, they're just giving us a female Cloud and hope that keeps people interested.
  • The game has had delay after delay after delay -- It's not completely unorderinary for a game to have a delay, most do, but this one has had delay after delay after delay.  It could be for the better, but it could also be because the game is one giant clusterfuck
  • They care more about how the game looks than anything else -- Unless I'm mistaken (and I could be) just about everything told to us has been about eye candy or future spinoffs.  I don't play Final Fantasy games for eye candy, I play them for interesting characters and a good story.
  • The last few games have been bad, why would this one be good?  They could always pull a FFIX on us but you can't really expect anomalies.

Let's try to think positively!

  • The main character is described as being Cloud but a chick -- Square has found a character concept that people like and are rather fond of.  They wish to please their biggest fans by giving them something similar which Square hopes they will also enjoy.
  • They are already planning ten years of spinoffs -- Square is putting a lot of time, thought, and effort into not only providing you a great experience in the form of this game but future ones as well.  Fans should be overjoyed to hear that Square will be providing even more great games in the future.
  • The game has had delay after delay after delay --  Square is taking the time to polish this game and even bring it to an entirely new platform.   Square is dedicated to the highest level of quality and only has you the gamer in mind so they're taking as much time as they need to provide you the AAA experience you deserve.
  • They care more about how the game looks than anything else -- Of course Square cares about how the game looks.  After all you will spend 100% of your play time looking at the game so they want you to enjoy every second of it.
  • The last few games have been bad, why would this one be good?  -- Perhaps the last few games were not to your interest but that can and will change with FFXIII.  Square hopes that you will try their latest entry into their award-winning Final Fantasy series before judging it.

1.) I thought FFVII was mediorce and didn't originally have a problem with the game but what really pisses me off about the game is the fanbase it garners. 'Sephie' fangirls and Cloud fanboys were the worst in high school.

2.) I don't want FFXIII to flop because I can only see a bunch of 'Final Fantasy: Chocobo Partys' and 'Final Fantasy VII: the After' to recoup the losses.

3.) FFIX was the last good FF. Other than that, FFVI had a superb story but I like FFIV slightly more for the gameplay.

Pixel Art can be fun.

same here...i really want this game to fall very hard..
SE this gen is a complete failure.....i really wish they file for bankruptcy soon
die SE, die.....im not supporting your games again you cu**s

I think their games are fine.

I just want them to get the game out in freaking two years, not five.

Agreed.

On the PS1, Square released FF VII in 1997. FF VIII then in 99. FF IX then in 2000.

Why can't we have games that fast anymore?

Go play the SNES games already, sheesh.

Even if you're SNES-less an hate pirating, there's no excuse for not playing FFIV DS...!
