No, I don't want FFXIII to bomb because SE betrayed Sony and went to the 360 or because I have everything Playstation, I want FFXIII to bomb because I want SE to get taken down a peg.

It's no secret that I'm not excited about FFXIII and I already think it's going to be nothing specia but that isn't what this mini rant is about.  I'm sick of SE and people thinking they can only crap gold.  I say only crap gold because that's what SE seems to like to release these days and people eat. it. up.

Why?

I saw a thread on the front page asking if Final Fantasy XIII could be the last AAA RPG on consoles if it bombs and that just enrages.  People just assume the game is good because it's an RPG and ignore other great games because they aren't Final Fantasy yet the Final Fantasy franchise has ranged from miserably mediocre to utter shit for more than 10 years.

I hope FFXIII bombs hard so SE is forced to make good Final Fantasy games.  I want them to stop relying on cut scenes to mask the shitty story and characters.  I don't want another Cloud throne, boring predictable copied story, and terrible main villain.  I want the games to go back to being about story and character development which none of the recent FF games have had.

Maybe, just maybe, if FFXIII bombs they will realize they should actually start trying again and stop worring so much about 10 years of spinoffs. 

After all, we got the original Final Fantasy because Squaresoft was in danger of going under and that was to be their last hurrah.

I don't agree that the FF series have been shit for 10 years. Even when they don't turn out as you want. It's always obvious that blood, sweat, tears and $$$ were dumped into every main series game.

I do agree with you, however, that the spin offs are quite ridiculous and people need to stop buying them so that S-E actually starts developing games again not rehashes but with Wada at the helm, I don't expect any changes anytime soon.

Oh I believe there's blood, sweat, and tears put into the game but no real love.  It's all about the money and all about pleasing the Cloud fanboys, not about actually making a decent game.

I actually think making Cloud a chick in FFXIII is a genius move from their point of view because now fanboys don't have to feel so bad about being in love with Cloud.

What if the game is actually good though? Hypothetically of course.

I think you and I are already clear with one another on our respective perspectives concerning the shape of Square for the last few years.

I don't want FF XIII to bomb. I just want FF XIV to come out within two years of FF XIII's release, because this shit is getting ridiculous.

It could happen and I would love to be wrong about FFXIII but we have a much better chance of seeing a good 3D HD Sonic game before that.  Sure, we'll have people ranting and raving about how FFXIII is a masterpiece the same way people rant and rave about FFXII but it still doesn't change the fact it's a bad game.
