JRPGs sadly aren't the favorite genre this generation. Final fantasy 13 is probably the only franchise that has a chance at selling the big numbers

Every main entry into the FF series since 7 has been AAA metacritic. So in other words its almost guaranteed that XIII will join them. As for whether there will be any other AAA JRPGs, it's starting to look really bleak.

Edit - WTF am I talking about? Have you heard of a little game called Dragon Quest X?

Not neccessarily. Check my post. Only main entries into the Final Fantasy series (excluding XI) have managed to pull of AAA status on metacritic. Most spin-offs, while rated higher than the average JRP, still end up in the high 70's, low 80's range.

none of the DQ or KH series is AAA....so if you talk about amazing JRPG...it's a misconception...only amazing games that are going to be if you go by rating are probably going to be FF series...and maybe one random JRPG...so in that sense...even last gen has been mediocre if not worse than this gen...the difference between last gen and this gen is the quantities of different games that have been coming out...

DQ8 and KH2 last gen received as good reviews as the 3 you listed in Japan (if not better)... they are definitely AAA.

 



MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

Last gen only had 3 AAA jRPG's? I really don't like this whole metacritic thing, but the Dreamcast alone had 2, check it:

Skies of Arcadia (93), Grandia II (90).
