Lately there has been a lot of comparisons made between GOW and God of War, for a variety of different reasons, on VGChartz.  I thought it would be nice to make this particular comparison.

Which game series has done more for it's respective console?  Gears of War or God of War?

And for a tougher question, is God of War 3 likely to have a greater impact on system sales of the PS3 than GOW did on system sales of the Xbox 360 (accounting of course for the fact GOW has seen two next-gen releases)?

honestly, this is a very cute and clever try at it.

I appreciate your effort at further cementing "GOW" to mean "Gears of War", but given the context of previous discussions it is actually slightly obnoxious.

Of course Gears is the bigger seller. God of War came late enough in the PS2's life that it barely moved anything.

Although I will allow that God of War sold me my Playstation 2. What a joyous day.

Personally I feel that Sony and God of War could learn a lot from the way Microsoft marketed and released GOW.  Microsoft always choose key release windows, which I hope Sony does with God of War instead of letting it fall into March/April.

True true, GeoW has had some great marketing and release choices, but as a gamer I don't really give a crap about that, I just want my GoW as soon as possible :P

God of War came long after the point where a PS2 game could be considered a system seller and GOW III will do little, if anything, to boost PS3 sales. The series just isn't that big and you know that.

This is true.  GOW 3 will be amazing, but I doubt Epic will be done developing it until late 2010.

What's this GeoW of which you speak?  If it can truly be compared to Epic's GOW masterpiece, I'll have to look into it.
