Forums - Gaming - Game Prices for the Wii in contrast to the PS360

Well it sure would be nice if we could get some players choice games, it is ridiculous that Metroid Prime 3 is still selling for 49.99!!

 MP3 is well worth 50$, its not one of the one's that deserves a drop. Epic adventures like that cost alot of money to make.

However the MP remakes, and pikmin remakes could use a lower price tag.

Support good third party games on wii. Buy games like house of the dead overkill, de blob, madworld, the conduit and boom blox.

Shouldn't Wii games costs less than ps2/gamecube games if they put about the same amount of effort? I mean, the technology has been out for many years now + more efficient tech is now available.

No... they shouldn't

The coding is not the expensive part of making the game, and the only thing what you are saying affects is how easy it is to code on the Wii compared to PS2 (which was a bitch, but everyone was forced to get used to it) and GC (which the Wii is similar to, so those that knew how to work the GC should be able to easily work with the Wii)

The money is spent mostly on things that have nothing to do with which console it is on. (Except that it has to "fit" onto that console of course)

*agrees with TWRoO*

A Wii game that makes full use of the Wii's hardware costs more to develop than a GC game did, due to the Wii having more processing power, and ram, and 6 times the storage space on a disc.

And besides, keeping games at the same price is effectively a price drop - inflation

@twroo

I know that they mark up prices. But let's not go comparing jewelry to video games. I'm comparing video games on Wii to video games on PS360. I just think the mark up they're using is greater than the value i'm getting out of Wii games compared to PS360 games.

For example i may have bought games like mushroom men or deadly creatures at $30, but at $50 i feel it's too much of a mark-up. Of course some games like Mario Kart which greatly enhances the experience with motion controls & the wii wheel i buy day 1.

@scottie

inflation has decreased, we're in a recession.

@ arsenal - I'm not buying that. We had (from the release of the GC to the release of the Wii) about 5 years of inflation at the level of 3-5%. Since then we've had almost 2 years of inflation at approx 1% and maybe 3 months of deflation at about 1%

Sum that all up and you still get alot of inflation

It's not a "mark-up".... they are not putting Wii games at $50 to get more profits, games have always been that price and with the Wii still costing more to develop for than last gen they are not going to reduce it.

The raise in price for the HD games is a mark-up because they needed it to survive, in truth they needed a lot more of an increase, but the public wouldn't have accepted it if HD games were $80.

What developers need to do is stop striving for the high tech specs because it will eventually ruin all but the biggest and best, if we just let technology get better at it's own rate costs wouldn't have increased so dramatically.

@twroo

You really think Mario Kart gamecube costs about 2 million & Mario Kart wii costs about 4 million? I don't know, i find it hard to believe the Wii version can end up costing so much more.

But i guess ur right about the HD games being too expensive to develop. I think it's profitable for big franchises, but a lot of other games are going to lose money. Nintendo obviously did the right thing concentrating on innovative gameplay rather than presentation, the route PS360 consoles took, to lower dev costs & keep gaming fresh.

Maybe it's a psychological thing and i wouldn't feel so bad if PS360 games were more expensive. Maybe ur right that $30 is too low, but what about $40? Like megaman said, If they can sell Star Wars: Force Unleashed for $40 on ps2 why not on Wii? I'm guessing games like deadly creatures / de blob / mushroom men prob cost around the same as Star Wars (not sure obviously). But if it did, shouldn't they be at $40 as well? Whatever, u obviously don't agree w me, but i'd still prefer a bit of a price drop on Wii games.
