Forums - Gaming - Which Final Fantasy Had your Favourite Battle/Item/Equipment/Level system

Im surprised more people arent saying FFX! But interesting indeed I found XII's battle system a bit to slow for my liking and the fact they're were no restrictions on who could use what I felt like everyone was the same just different skin.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

You could swap jobs right in the middle of battle anytime you wanted too

And its a little unfair for you to judge X-2 for not having lasting benefits for the job classes when I dont remember none of the other FFs with JC having lasting effects either.

Certain Jobs are more useful in different situations against different enemies. I would find myself swapping alot through secret dungeons etc.

and in case you didnt know........

X-2 also had items/equipment that would allow you to access other job class's abilities without changing. Thats not even counting the fact that the ultimate gamerments(Jobs) in FFX-2 were combinations of all the jobs combined, including their own seperate party members(sort of).

EDIT:

And you gotta admit. The Beserker, Samarai, Dark Knight, Beast Master and Gunner were some badass job classes.

I am now 99% convinced you never actually played 5 and just assumed X-2 must be better. In FFV you had 1 free slot for an extra skill. Skills were gained by mastering classes. The default class had 2 slots, and Mime had 3. In addition to that both of the classes would gain the stat advantage of any job you had mastered, That is, master Monk and you have Monk level HPs as either Mime or the default. Tactics took this concept and made it even better. The level of custimization gained by mastering classes was phenomenol. Same with the FFTA line. Only FF3 had a job system without lasting benefits other than X-2 so far as I can remember.

In X-2 I never bothered swapping. Just have an Alchemist spam mega-potion and the game becomes a walk in the park. I think one of the secret bosses posed some trouble, but I disliked the game so never bothered working through it. The fact that you had to have specific items to get access to certain classes was more annoying than anything else. You can't get the combinations you would really want without goign way out of the way. The Ultimate jobs were a specific combination and I didn't like a single one of them that much.

Samurai, Berserker, and Beast Master were done better in 5 imo (supposing I am remembering the Beast Master class correctly). Dark Knight was pretty cool over all. Gunner I hated. The classes were well done over all though. I have no specific complaints about them, but the system they are attached to sucks.

- FFVII: I love the materia system: endless possibilities.
- FFX: I love the board where you can get your skills and the fact that you can switch characters during a battle.

Worst: FFXII.

I like FF3's job system, if the monster visablilty of FF12 was mixed in with FF10's combat system then it'd be really nice

FF XIII says hi and asks you to wait for its release. Like, a year and a half more of waiting.

On another note, I dislike the job system, extremely. Too much freedom and options. Yes, that's a problem for me.

FF IX and FF X for me.

Yeah... Tactics was my favorite.... when facing humans... create a Gun Knight to shoot out there equipment before they got to you.

Or just dance them ot death.

Hmm that one's hard...

Must say, after reading all the comments I liked almost everyone of them.

FF12 was dissapointing to me. Can't exactly remember V but i just started tactics and i'll get back on that one.

I had fun with the sphere grid from X
Materia was absolutely cool
GF's were nice in 8
IX is kinda vage to recall although i loved the game itself

hmm for now i'll go with X but i think my opinion will change after Tactics...

Here's my problem with 12.

The Weapons Liscense Grid made no sense.

Often times you had to learn seemingly unrelated weapons to learn a completely different weapons abilties.

Like... need to learn how to use a sword to use a pole.

I almost stopped at "Here's my problem", since you know how I do in FF12 discussions (VIOLENCE), but I guess that makes sense. But at least you weren't lost and knew which direction you needed to go.
