I am now 99% convinced you never actually played 5 and just assumed X-2 must be better. In FFV you had 1 free slot for an extra skill. Skills were gained by mastering classes. The default class had 2 slots, and Mime had 3. In addition to that both of the classes would gain the stat advantage of any job you had mastered, That is, master Monk and you have Monk level HPs as either Mime or the default. Tactics took this concept and made it even better. The level of custimization gained by mastering classes was phenomenol. Same with the FFTA line. Only FF3 had a job system without lasting benefits other than X-2 so far as I can remember. In X-2 I never bothered swapping. Just have an Alchemist spam mega-potion and the game becomes a walk in the park. I think one of the secret bosses posed some trouble, but I disliked the game so never bothered working through it. The fact that you had to have specific items to get access to certain classes was more annoying than anything else. You can't get the combinations you would really want without goign way out of the way. The Ultimate jobs were a specific combination and I didn't like a single one of them that much. Samurai, Berserker, and Beast Master were done better in 5 imo (supposing I am remembering the Beast Master class correctly). Dark Knight was pretty cool over all. Gunner I hated. The classes were well done over all though. I have no specific complaints about them, but the system they are attached to sucks. |
Yeah... Tactics was my favorite.... when facing humans... create a Gun Knight to shoot out there equipment before they got to you.
Or just dance them ot death.
