Forums - Nintendo - Wii Motion Plus performance on current games

It's a shame but i think you will be waiting a while for a price cut. Nintendo can sell em pretty much as fast as thry can make em in the West. Maybe they will drop the price in Japan some time soon. As for the games you mentioned, yes Disaster is an excellent game. I will admit i do find accuracy to be a problem very occasionally but i don't think on the whole it detracts anything of the enjoyment of any game on the whole. May just take some getting used to for you.

In my opinion the N64 was not just the best console of the 5th gen but, to this day the best console ever created!

I played it a few times when it launched in Europe. I also found Sonic and the Secret Rings to be rather bland gameplay wise.

So, order of action is to try it more to get used to it and adjust sensibility configurations properly. Will do! Arc Rise Fantasia, you shall be mine, my pretty... mwahahahah!

I haven't closely followed all the news on Wii Motion Plus and its capabilities, but Wikipedia has a nice overview:

tehsage is right. It's your setup. Most likely your room lighting. You will probably find it plays perfectly in the dark.

Then it is just a matter of checking where the problem is. For me it was a halogen uplighter at the back of the room reflecting off a corner of a mirror frame (it is that sensitive). Then just move stuff around until you don't have the problem any more.

As to what WM+ does:

The Wiimote uses accelerometers, which detect acceleration. So they can tell when you're moving and they can tell which way is down (acceleration due to gravity).

WM+ keeps that, and adds gyroscopes which - once calibrated - will detect orientation in all three directions. So it will know which direction it is pointing as well as which way up it is.

So, expect WM+ games to require fairly frequent pointing-at-the-screen (to keep the calibration accurate, but it will be well-disguised in the gameplay) and 1-1 directional matching. Like swords for example.

It still won't know physical position in space. So don't expect a Wii Music where you can play the high notes to your right and the low ones to your left.

at the moment it can detect the direction of the motions. whether its a swing to the left, right,up or down forward backwards, tilting ect

with motion+ the wii can detect exactly where the wiimote is in 3D space

Ah I see phisheep, thank you very much. I feel much more confident in the technology now. Asking for people's opinions certainly sparkles clarity. I'll have to try it out again soon and make sure everything works well. :)

No, woopah, it won't do that.

It will do 1-1 direction, but not position in space.

Which is probably just as well, because otherwise your gaming experience might depend on how long your arms are!

Well, that could be taken into account for gameplay. And thus LucasArts would make a laser swords Star Wars sim that would go on to sell 20 million units. :p

... but it would feel very odd if you sat down to play and found you were only hacking at Darth Vader's knees ...
