Forums - Nintendo - DR CTYD has removable limbs in some versions.

http://www.gamekyo.com/videoen14581_dead-rising-new-video.html

Although the official site version doesn't show it, in the video on this site, you can see heads popping, and in the last few seconds, you can see a leg being blown off. Now we might not get limbs falling off, but it's still more than we thought.

It seems that the reduced animations would be due to censoring, which even the 360 version had in Japan*.

* As did all versions of RE4.

Never thought I'd say this, but it doesn't look that bad in that video.

I still think the RE4 engine doesn't lend itself to the game much, but it's looking better.

Although I don't think the game would look much better with a different engine, I do agree it was a miracle they got an engine meant for a linear, high detail game to fit on a sandbox game.

It was probably mainly to facilitate gameplay. Could also have been the team's familiarity with the engine, given they ported RE4, not just directly, but also adapted the PS2 features to fit the GC graphics (look at the first parts of chapter 4 of Separate Ways).

Still want to rent this game before buying, though. I didn't enjoy the 360 version that much (my bother loves it though), so I want to make sure if I like this or not.
