Forums - PC - Recommend me some good retro RPG's!

I tried Lionheart back when it was released! It was quite good imo! I got Albion last night, a sci-fi rpg/adventure of some sort, a friend of mine recommended it!
I also played Amulets and Armor last night, damn that game is hard! But very fun.
Ahh, so many great games, I don't know how I'll get anything else done now!

This thread is making me want to reinstall these games, man they were fun. Crusaders of the Dark Savant was probably my favourite of the lot.

Yeah, Crusaders is great. Tough as a nail, too. Without a proper party you'd end up toasted - that's an old design motto newer rpg's have completely shredded.

Ah, lost in the RPGs of ages past :)

Quest for Glory really is one of the greatest games of all time. So many solutions to every puzzle! One of the greatest series, I should say.

Anyone ever tried darklands? You create a full party of characters with a pretty great creation system. Battle system is very similar to Baldur's Gate, with things playing out in real time, but pause-able. Magic comes in the form of alchemy and religion -- you can make potions that do all kind of things, heal a bit of health or endurance (two different stats), increase armor, make big explosions, melt other people's armor... The whole game is based in medieval Germany. There's a world map where instead of always fighting random battles, you are often challenged by random events (blizzards, peasants begging you for help, knights challenging you to duels, etc.)

It's the kind of game you can play for a while and not realize that there's a whole other aspect of the game you haven't seen yet.

I can't contribute a recommendation as you've already mentioned my two favorite RPG's from that PC era yourself (Betrayal at Krondor, Lands of Lore), but from the recommendations already posted in this thread Arcanum and Darklands look the most interesting to me (never heard of the latter one until Alic0004 mentioned it here).

Lans of Lore is great - pickard's voice-over was a nice touch (I mean, Patrick Stewart).

I would recommend after recently getting the Mega Drive (Genesis) collection Phantasy Star IV. Definitely a classic that is worth a look!

PSN: Gippon

For consoles i strongly recommend you get Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals and Terranigma (as well Lufia 1 just to get the grasp of the story)
As for PC's it's pretty much what everyone has said around here already, plus i too strongly recommend ADOM. If you can get to level 20 on that thing, then you sir are a lucky man indeed :) (The furthest i went was level 19 with a warrior, only to fall onto a friggin pit and die XD)

I know this isn't a game recommendation as such, but have you tried looking at gog.com (Good old games) They've got some old rpgs for sale here for between $5.99 and $9.99 which I believe all work with xp and vista

"Watchmen" is far better than The Dark Knight / Why does no-one own this wonderful game: Fragile Allegiance? / Speak (Type) Italian to me!
