Forums - Sony - Ps3 Media Server / In game music?

Alright so, most of us know the ps3 has media server functions so you don't have to have all that music on your hard drive. However will the media Server work for backround music in games or does it have to be directly on the hard drive? It's just the media server pretty much streams so i think it would bog down online gameplay so i don't know if they'll allow it.

Reason i ask is Killzone 2 online BGM. I do BGM with warhawk however all those songs were on the Hard Drive.

To add fun to this what songs are you going to be listening to during killzone if any? I have all the Silent Hill OST and with killzones atmosphere and the sneak style of play i have, I think they would fit perfect. They did in the beta, but i had to use my computer for the music lol.  Also some Rammstein, particulary Sonne....and the Linger in the Shadows songs.

Probably none. I'd rather listen to custom music in SP =/

If sound is somewhat important in MP, I just might leave it off. But.....if I had to choose.....both of those songs you mentioned are good. Besides that, I usually prefer any good music without lyrics when it comes to gaming.

I usually just turn music completely off so i can hear guns go everywhere and bullets whiz by so i know what direction people are getting me from, however, sometimes it's nice if you just wanna relax and casually play. I can't be in frag mode 24/7.

I'm pretty sure on PS3 the music does need to be directly on the drive, I have a media server set up, and its one of the things i like about xbox360, because i can use custom music streamed from my pc - albeit it doesn't sort it very well. Honestly though I go with the music from the game most of the time.

If you upgrade your hdd up to 320 or 500gb that will help out a lot (I went up to 320gb) - however most games don't support custom soundtracks on PS3.

Yea don't think you can YET though. :( I was looking to find out about this exact thing when they first announced the custom support in games, It does have to be on the Hard drive, i dont know about USB hard drives - if they work that way.

as rob6021 states, most games don't support custom tracks from the ps3 HD or via a media server. Sony implemented the feature as an option to developers but its pretty heavy on memory usage, considering most games generally need all of the ram the ps3 gives them atm, I doubt any beefy games will support it for a while.

killzone 2's multiplayer supports it and so does warhawk....
