Palin, Steele no impress Meghan McCain ...

Meghan McCain wasn't impressed with Michael Steele, or Sarah Palin, in an interview with ABC Radio's Curtis Sliwa yesterday:

"You know with all due respect to the new chairman, Michael Steele, I do not believe that is actually something that is going to work because it is premeditated. If you're saying I want people from the hip-hop community -- I don't even know what that means exactly -- I guess people that are in the music industry could become more closer and you know try and become Republicans (sic). I just don't think that is going to work. I think they need to rely on a message that is going to really stick with people of my generation. That message has to be equated in the medium of the internet, which obviously up to this point just hasn't happened."

On whether Sarah Palin appeals more to a younger generation:

"I think no matter who, in the next four years, becomes the prominent up and coming person -- Bobby Jindal, Gov. Huntsman -- there are lots of names being thrown around right now -- I think whoever gets to the point of becoming the prominent figure in the Republican party has to have a message that's simple that goes out. Hope and change was something that really stuck with my generation. It's something that's on bumper stickers and t-shirts. And it's something that was easy for people to understand. What the Republican party is not doing right now is having a message that can equally touch that point. Sarah Palin -- I hope she can, at some point, I just -- I think time will tell."

On whether she'll support Sarah Palin if she becomes the Republican nominee:

"I would support whomever the Republican candidate is in the next election."

I am shocked he didn't get more votes. Some of his ideas are far out, but he seems like he'd be open to reach across party lines.

This doesn't include McCain and Obama spending, which was insane, as Obama spend ~700 million dollars, and McCain spent ~360m for their presdential runs. McCain spent somewhere around $100m before the primaries were over, so money does talk, as Paul was out-spent by 2 other Republicans, and never really got any major Republican endorsements.

I think Paul's major problem was marketing. He has (and had) fantastic ideas that would have reached out to both sides of the asile, but I never heard of the guy until maybe 3-4 months before the Ohio primaries - and his fundraising was that way too: he recieved well over 50% of his entire funding while the race was going on, which really doesn't help saturate your name in the mindshare of the American public.

Had he been 'groomed' into a top-tier candidate as McCain, Gulianni, Romney or Huckabee were (and as Palin and Jindal are becoming now), he would have done better. IMO, a Paul-Obama race would have been interesting, as Paul could have identified with voters and the economic crisis that was coming down during the end of the race, which ended up killing McCain.

All I can hope for is that either Paul, or someone a lot like him, becomes a top-tier Republican candidate over the next 3 years.

BTW: My county's republican party endorced Ron Paul for president.

I think his message is one that Dems can agree with and identify with. I remember watching the GOP debate and he actually told the others on stage that he liked Obama and was like him. There were groans from the crowd. My mouth dropped.

After that, I was like 'I wanna find out more about this cat.'

He's one of the most "real" politicians out there. I like some of his politics, but there's too much in his views that I consider totally unacceptable (for me to support him).
