Mass Effect has already released in Japan.
It took that long because they had to adapt the game to japanese tastes - small changes to the script, some new character models, maybe a cinematic or two... you know, the usual.
Ah, they also changed the title to make it more appealing to japanese customers: they called it Star Ocean 4.
