Forums - Sony - My GameStop is having a Midnight Launch for Killzone

We just got the e-mail today.  My store, as well as four others in the New Orleans region (making 5 out of 15) will be doing a midnight launch.

Here are the store numbers:

3880 - Mine on Veterans in Metairie.
0158 - The one in Lakeside Mall (the busiest in our region).
2870 - The one in Elmwood in front of the Super Wal-mart (second busiest).
2916 - No idea where this one is.
5853 - No idea either.

As usual, any store with over 100 pre-orders is doing a midnight release, and any store that doesn't have over 100 reserves but is near a store from a competing chain that will be doing a midnight release will also be doing a midnight release.

In our specific case, we're near a Best Buy.  Our store is less than a year old, and doesn't have the customer base to get near 100 reserves on ANY game, let alone this.  But the Best Buy is doing a midnight launch, thus we are as well.

And I'm laughing out loud at all the people that made threads and/or posted multiple times about how employees at their GameStop said there would be no release at any store.  I said the entire time that this is done by a case-by-case basis, and is usually announced closer to release.

I wonder if my Gamestop is having midnight launch.

Give 'em a call tomorrow. They should know by now.

I just went to mine to pick up Fire Emblem:Shadow Dragon they had no posters of it at all. But they had about 25 SF4 posters every single place O_o oddly enough I saw a little sign next the PS3 section that said that Killzone 2 will have a midnight launch....

Former something....

Well it doesn't really make a difference to me I mean I don't care waiting until nine in the morning to get my game heck I won't be getting KZ2 until march 3rd-5th.

I'm kinda surprised Best Buy is having a midnight launch though, that is good news.

This is good to see, we looking at a first week 600k WW week maybe? If the adverts are shown constantly I would think it was possible.

It ultimately depends on the marketing.

This is waht they're doing in Spain (from neogaf):

Sony Spain's HUGE marketing campaign for KILLZONE 2:

- Tv spots starting on frebuary 21.
- Spot also on cinemas.
- February 25. One day prior to the launh of the game, a big tv spot (1 min long) will be aired in some of the most important channels (Antena 3, cuatro, sexta, fox, paramount, AXN).
- Huge amount of advertising on newspapers and magazines. Marca and As are two big sport magazines in Spain, both will be decored with Killzone 2 motifs on february 26.
- Orange and vodafone will send sms about the game and its launch.

They're not going all out like that in NA, likely because advertising in general is more costly here.

I expect this to be the another anomoly among shooters - one that will sell more in Europe than in North America, much like the first Killzone.

500k-600k seems like what the first week will hold unless something very odd happens...

Mine has a poster up behind the counter near the upcoming releases thing at the very top.  We have large posters for SFIV at the front of the store.

I expect those SF posters to be replaced with KZ2 posters soon, much like they were FEAR posters before SF.  Then Halo Wars posters after Killzone and RE5 posters after that.

Though I could be wrong.

Also Sony is simply stronger here which is probably the reason why they try more here with adverts at least. The first sold something crazy like 2 million in just EU which is amazing for what was ultimately a failure. Correct me if I am wrong on that number but EU was big, we stick up for our people. :P
