Forums - General - My uni, George Mason, elects a drag as Homecoming Queen!!!

I've now handed out the appropriate moderation action against both sides of the issue in this thread.

Let me make this very clear, this sort of back and forth mocking is not OK, and you can save your "it's all in fun" replies, I know what good natured ribbing looks like and this my friends is certainly not it.

A lot of it is borderline trolling and some of it is outright trolling. The folks who didn't get a warning but got bans have had warnings in the past for this sort of issue and I want to make it clear that this website is not here for people to ridicule others even if they are "asking for it", simply because they have another view, or just because you don't personally approve of their beliefs and/or lifestyle.

The point is conceded Sqrl.  I will tone done and save my rhetoric for future campaign trails.  I don't want to be a troll but I did refute my arguments with follow ups and sound debate.

Around the Network

im surprised that no one on this thread has been banned for flaming
1.rednecks r not like that btw i live in the country and i know alot of rednecks and they will stop anything to help out a total stranger
2.he should have not been elected queen, the students should not have voted for him ,and the school should not have given him the tidal
3.who knows y the us entered the war,i was not alive at the time and therefore have no idea of the intentions(and i doubt that anyone else here was alive during that time either)

thats my two cents, and i dont care wat u think about it,i know wat i believe in
:I

The debate and the substance is not the issue here, in fact that is what I'm encouraging. You guys should have a debate and discuss these things.

The problem is the personal nature with which both sides argued their point and how it turned into a gang-up on the minority not with legitimate points but insults and ridicule. People think that when you gang up in a group only the really bad comments get noticed and that is simply not the case, everyone who piled on regardless of what side of the issue was treated as a full part of the problem. Because that is exactly what you/they are.  Even the person being ridiculed can be, and in this case was, a part of the problem when they are adding fuel to the fire.

Civil discourse happens by agreement of both sides to remain civil, so you both (ie both sides) need to make the effort or you both need to find somewhere else to post your flame wars.

To Each Man, Responsibility

Ok time to get this topic rolling again:

I don't really see a problem with it, they voted and frankly they can choose whoever they want. He wouldn't have been my choice, but I don't have a vote and rightfully so (I don't go to that school).

To Each Man, Responsibility

Well I do thank you Sqrl for your help and input and for a moment there I thought I was banned for sure. Civil debate is always key and personal opinions must always be expressed with civility and not stifled to prevent dissent. I could go on on this (esp with the new cig ban in VA even though I don't smoke but that is beside the point) but I am sure you get the point.

stereotypical american much?

srsly dude, people like you scare me :(

Why thank you.  Tell you what.  How about the Ruskies or the Germans invade the Netherlands again and see what country would be the first to save every single person there.  Begins with a U ends with an S.

The first? Nah it'll probably like the last two major wars where Europe had to wait until America was actually attacked before they would bother to help their allies.

This may be true but we still bailed out the whole of Europe, twice for the WWs and once for the CW.

You didn't bail Europe out in the world wars, you only ever got involved when it was clear you had to. It was a case of America saving America and nothing else. The Cold War was only ever really a war between the USA and Russia, Europe was largely proxy to the war.

Now that's not true in World War 2.  In World War 2 the US got very involved in WW2 before we were attacked.  Just covertly since the US people would of been pissed off had they known that FDR was conspiring behind their backs to force them in to world war 2.

It's ironically because FDR was a lot like Bush.

This is some complete and utter BS.  I feel compels to blog about it and I hope I don't see this pansy "Ms." on the grounds.  Thoughts on this disgrace of common culture?

If there isn't anything in it for the US, or it wouldn't result in the US's safety being compromised, then it probably wouldn't be the US.

Then again, that would never happen, anyways. Europe's moved on from intra-continental wars, we can thank the EU for that.

I think this is from Robot Chicken and kinda relevant to what you guys are discussing :P But what do i know i'm french/dutch :P
