Forums - General - My uni, George Mason, elects a drag as Homecoming Queen!!!

It is really a shame that certain moderators feel the need to use their powers to ban others who have really done nothing wrong when they feel their own ideology is under attack.

My results. Kinda surprising in some categories. Anyhow, after reading through the thread, I'm a little surprised to see all these insults being flung everywhere. I know conservatives are the minority on sites like these and people tend to get defensive and gang up on others but...

It's better to question someone's beliefs, not insult them personally for those beliefs. Insulting someone while arguing a point is quite counterproductive. Anyhow, I respect Halogamer's beliefs even though I do not share some of them. That's what's good about this country. If we only had one party, we would have less freedom than we do now. Heck, I wish there were more parties! I'm tired of only having two! (3 if ya' count libertarians?)

So, to the OP:

I do think a female should have been elected, however if the university voted for the guy, then a win is a win. It doesen't do much good trying to change this if the people of the school are wanting this guy to be their homecoming queen.

I mean, I don't agree with them, but I have no right to shove my opinion down their throats either. At the same time, I should have the right to state that I don't like the outcome and not be insulted for saying it, as long as I go about it respectfully of course.

@the person joking about Miss Universe... A transvestite is still a man. Make them compete in their own 'Miss(ter) Universe'  so we can always enjoy the REAL gorgeous females.

If he wished world peace, would he qualify for Miss Universe?

No b/c he would still be a man and not be a Miss.  I have already spoken by part on this.

I believe this is the case: Sex is biological, and always easy to tell. *Gender* is up to you. I can, if I want, say on a survey that I am a woman. If I think that I am a woman, and the question is "gender?" I can put woman, and be correct. So that guy is the queen, he identifies himself as a woman.

Is the guy really a drag queen or just a guy in womens clothes?

Back when I was in high school, during homecoming week, we would have random days where the students celebrated every day during the week by dressing up in a different theme. There have been a lot of guys that dress up like girls at these things. Also, when my school had powderpuff football games, the guys would wear cheerleader outfits. That doesn't mean the football team were all drag queens does it? No. I don't even know if I'm convinced that this guy is a drag queen. Have you seen him walking around school dressed in drag all the time?

I know what you are talking about--opposite day.  Trust me though axum--his opposite day is a permanent one and he was elected "Queen" anyway.  I have not seen him around campus but here is the online version of our paper http://www.broadsideonline.com/index.php  You can see him standing next to the King.

What is this?
I may not know a lot about your culture but this is way too weird to me.
I seriously don't know what to make of it.
He barely resembles a woman.
Did he really deserve to win? Or did they just want the publicity?

Hell if I know.  I know I will put in a motion to recommend that future HCing Queens be female-only on Tuesday.  You are actually only the third person to agree with me on this in the whole thread!

Well it turns out he is gay and performs at drag clubs but entered as a joke. http://www.swamppolitics.com/news/politics/blog/2009/02/dragqueen_homecoming_queen_gmu.html

Also, I have read articles describing his MySpace page personal description as " “fabulous entertainer and cheap hooker.”  He is single but wants children someday, so he is in line to becoming the second ever pregnant man. His interests include: making people smile, hugs, new clothes, cute boys, cute jewelry, and high heels. " (http://www.rightpundits.com/?p=2931)

I might add that I'm against people who exploit sexual orientation for exposure and popularity. It just seems low to me. I've known gay guys that are perfectly fine with their orientation and DON'T conform to Hollywood style gayness. They are who they are and they don't go advertising themselves because they don't need to.

Maybe that doesen't make much sense.
