All that matters is that you have plenty of Zelda on your list!

Most everyone I know agrees that Civilization II was the high point of the series with the best overall gameplay balance and the largest number of introductions of (now) staple Civilization game elements. I'm not being accusational, just curious. What makes Civilization I better in your opinion? Do you count CivNet as a version of Civilization I? Do you have a distaste for isometric views? Have you never played Civilization II? Did you miss out on FMV heralds because you have less than 16MB of RAM? That would partially kill the experience for me. What is it?
Currently playing: Wii Fit / The Sims 3

Try PrizeRebel , it could make you rich ! I have $15.80 USD so far. I love BengaBenga's Most Wanted lists.

Simple answer: It was the first one and that makes it outstanding to me.
I based my decision about best games ever on my personal thoughts about all games I've ever played. The main question to me was: Which were the games that felt outstanding, fresh, unique and unlike others when I first played them? Those five above. I know that objectively Civ II is the better game, even to me. But Civ I started my love for turn-based strategy (and building sims), Dune II my passion for RTS and SoMI my addiction to the point&click adventures (which is put to the test with every mediocre release in this genre). As I know that Civ won't make it to the top 50 anyway (at least on this site), I took the freedom to choose it over Civ II.
It's impossible for us to make an objective list of Top 5 games, as none of us have played all games ever released, none of us have even played the best games on each platform.
Zelda: ALttP, for example, is objectively the best game in my Top 5. I'm sure It would be higher on my list if I had played it when it came out, but until a few years ago I was a PC-only gamer and the first time I played this wonderful game is only two years ago.
