Forums - Nintendo - Dead Rising Wii flops in Japan, no reviews yet. Does Capcom know it's crap?

"Quick question.. how well did the 360 version sell there? I can't really call it a flop knowing the Japanese demographic."

80K, but after several months.

Thanks.  Also thanks to LTNK.  Anyway, I see why it isn't selling.. I doubt Capcom expected more than this..

Pixel Art can be fun.

Dead Rising 360 first week sales: 22k

360 Install Base at the time of launch: 158k

Attach ratio of approx 1:7

Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop first week sales: Max of 10k

Wii's install base at the time of launch: 7.86 Million

Attatch ratio of approx: 1:7860

It's clear that the Wii's userbase is strongly rejecting this game. Could be because of the userbase demographics? In part, but just a small part. There's a big core section that completely dismissed this game. Not either core gamers were interested in it, I bet it's because of the low quality and being a downgraded port.

Honestly, who doesn't want this game to fail? Except people who hate the Wii of course.

Who can say... Capcom's Wii strategy seems to largely be to overpromise and underdeliver... then pretend they didn't underdeliver and complain their games haven't sold.

Actually, only Sven complains.

This has been Capcom's strategy with the N64, the Gamecube, and now the Wii. Let's all face the fact that Capcom does not want to have any thing to do with Nintendo's home consoles.

This attach rate crap would mark you as a n00b, but others still believe that bullshit.

Niche game audiences do not magically become bigger just because a system sells more. This is a niche game there.

Why do we want this to fail? Do we hate Capcom for the lack of Wii support, or is it something else? I just want to be sure.

Because a lot of people are convinced this is a terrible, terrible game. They seem to think there's no way it could end up being fun. Even if it gets average scores (6-7's) they'll still lambast it for being complete shovelware crap.

It reminds me of the reactions to Wii Music before it came out. You know, the whole jumping to conclusions before actually playing it thing....

Disclaimer: I'm in no way saying this game will be great or even good. I'm only reserving judgment until I have a chance to play it.

This

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

I haven't seen many people from Capcom say anything like that except Sven.

For people who supposedly complain they sure seem content with putting games like RE4 and MH3 on Nintendo systems.

RE4 is a port and MH3 probably cost Nintendo a shitload of Saki, karaoke and Yen. Like i said in another thread MH3 is probably going to be the most expensive 3rd party Wii title yet.
