N260GTX Lightning, launching at CeBIT

The guys over at Matbe have received information from MSI about a new Geforce GTX 260 they are developing. The new GTX 260 flavor will feature double the amount of GDDR3 memory chips found in current models.

The card, dubbed MSI N260GTX Lightning, will pack 1792MB of memory, as the GTX 295 does, and will be manufactured on a red PCB with dual-slot cooling, dual fans, and five heatpipes. The card also features an 8 + 2 phase power design, including capacitors that support temperatures up to 125C with an advertised lifetime of 5000 hours.

Clock frequencies are unknown at press time, but users will be able to quickly and easily modify them with the included MSI N260GTX Lightning AirForce Panel.

Moreover, this card is launching next week at CeBIT, where we can expect to receive further information about the product.

Should be quite good as long as they can keep the price somewhere close to the current ones.

The GT200 Cores have always suffered at higher AA due to RAM saturation, wonder how much higher framerates will go?

Jesus God. Once you have that much video memory, wouldn't the performance bottleneck probably be somewhere else?

WOW!

On another note, 5000 hours? That's about 208 days.... I have as much just on WoW since 2004.... That's not counting the countless other games I've played since.

P.S. GG Consoles, G-Fucking-G.

My Gosh.....that card might outdo the next gen consoles let alone the current HD consoles.

Simple Answer? Yes.

Longer Answer. Yes, The odds are that although this will probably have an appreciable effect on framerates, it will only be noticeable if youre running games at 16xAA already, thats when this card should come in to its own.

It won't improve the actual bandwidth of the GPU anymore than the shrink to 55nm and the slightly higher clocks that arose from the shrink already have.

Yep I stumbled ove that one, too. Probably they mean the caps hold 5000hrs at 125deg. Hopefully the card never even comes close to the 125deg for extensive periods...

My graphics card is a year and a half old, it still outperforms the current gen HD consoles.

I Run Fallout 3 on High with Quad AA @1680x1050,  It's always >30FPS

Left 4 Dead plays on maximum settings as do Dead Space, Warhammer Online.

In fact the only game i can't play on High even when i apply a Massive OC to the card is DAMN CRYSIS lol.

As the Next Gen consoles are already in development I would think it's likely they'll probably be about equal in power to the high end cards of today.

Admittedly that's not a given anymore due to the Wii and the "recession" (AKA Greedy Scaredy Cat Banks). It's entirely possible they'll use graphics tech (from PCs not consoles)  from between 2 years ago and now to keep costs down.

Also, in case anyone wondering why the GTX295 with 1792MB GDDR3 has comparative issues at higher AA, it's because with the GX2-type cards that nVidia release, the Graphics is mirrored for both cards, where as with this card the full amount of RAM should be available.

Edit Was For: Resolution change - It previously said 1680x10500. Interesting Rez eh?

meh, for its price you'll probably be able to get an X2 card that rapes it.
