Arcade Pong also came out in 1972. The home console version didn't come out untill 1975. But yes, when it comes to home consoles, the Magnavox Odyssey is the first commerical.

In 1951, the release of what I would term the frst video game was shown off. It was called Nim, and played very similar to tennis viewed from the side of the court. The display more resembled the Cathode Rays Tubes seen in science labs than in (CRT) monitors that we now know

Ralph Baer's Beta (Magnavox Odyssey) actually debut'ed (sp?) in 1970. It wasn't Mass Produced until 1972 and available nationwide. but yeah Odyssey "Tennis" technically preceeds Pong.
