Well that version released March 14th, 2007 I believe. It hasn't been 3 years like you said, it hasn't even been 2.

Edit - Scratch that whole thing. GoW2 released in 2007, the greatest hits I looked up just showed the original versions release date. So that would make the GH version at least late 2007 or Early 2008.

 I know nothing about God of War. I just bought the first 2 just only 4 days ago. I only did it because of the God of War 3 trailer and I wanted to know the backstory before getting it. Also might as well put my BC PS3 to some use. I just started the first one and I am loving what I am playing.

March 14th, 2007 was the release date of my version. GH versions are usually around 1-year later from what I know if it goes platinum. So yours was released most likely in 2008, so "coming soon" isn't as big a deal since it has only been about 1-year so far.

If your enjoying the first one, just wait until you play the 2nd one.

When do do make sure to hold L1, L2, L3, Square and Circle when you boot it up, the Sony Computer Entertainment screen will turn purple and the game will play in a "HD Mode". Then in the options just set it to Widescreen.

It looks beautiful.

*It is not really HD, more like an enhanced 480p. It looks better than the "Progressive Scan" option in the options menu*

They said they added this in last minute, it was actually finalized on their last day, it barely made it in. They did so in thought of those with HDTV's and Playstation 3's.

I appreciate it. The good thing is that I am enjoying the game so much (still on the first). GOW 3 will be a first day purchase for me. I am amazed how smooth it plays and it feels refreshing.

OMG, HD ps2 game, gosh, i am so suprised, you are so cool, the game looks great upscaling 1080p, hd code, and widescreen.

I felt the same way the first time I played GOW as well. I knew right away I was going to follow the series of it continued.
