Forums - Sales - PS3 Hardware Sales For Non-Entertainment Users?

# of unused Wiis in somebody's closet = # of RROD bricked 360 = # of PS3s not used for games, so it all evens out.

Seriously, it doubt this is a large enough number to make a difference.

I bet quite a few PS3s were bought primarily as a blu-ray player.
You can blame in part cheaper blu-ray players this christams for poor PS3 sales.

Last January the PS3 got a bump when the HD-DVD aliance fell apart as it was still the cheapest blu-ray player. This January, no blu-ray bump and PS3 sales are down yoy.

Of course the attachment rate will let us know.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

Certainly the Blu Ray player and other use combined will make a difference. Ultimately this will be reflected in Attach rates.

Building a Gaming machine selling at a lose then trying to claw back benefit from some scientific research or Blu Ray sales ultimately would be seen as not really very sensible.

On the flip side, a number of PS3 consoles have been purchased purely because they have Blu Ray player capabilities and the home brew aspect and are still being used to play games so ultimately it may even itself out but the acid test is the attach rate.

Kinect as seen by PS3 owners ...if you can pick at it   ...post it ... Did I mention the 360 was black and Shinny? Keeping Sigs obscure since 2007, Passed by the Sig police 5July10.

I know few people that are not really gamers but do have a PS3 because of blu ray because it still is one of the cheapest good players on the market.

PS3 still has the best quality/price ratio for a Bluray player IMO. And will still keep the lead for some times thanks to the firmware upgrades (IMHO again).

That's funny how you can see threads saying "The Bluray sinked the PS3" and other threads where "Many people who bought their PS3 as a Bluray player first" depending if we're talking about sales or attach rate.

Like Making music said, the important is pS3 atach rate. Not only the historical atach rate, but the weekly atach rate too.

Given the fact the attach ratio for the PS3 is lower than the X360/Wii, I think that's a good place to start. It's about 30% lower, so some amount of that 30% is going to be in your 'doesn't game on it' group. How much? I am unsure.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

This reminds me of the PS3 launch numbers in Japan... see the problem?

@ Gebx, when you just bought a 600$ system, it's hard to spend 70 more $ on a game

The PS3 could still play PS2 games by that time too...

And you could download demos from the PSN...

I'm trying... I'm trying...

Worldwide attach rates:  Wii=5.79    PS3=5.85   360=7.82

The PS3 attach rate is about the same as the Wii.  (actually slightly higher)

The 360 attach rate is higher, mostly because of the year head start.

There are certain number of PS3s owners that do not buy games, just like 360 and Wii.  I doubt there percentage if much different between them.
