If you take away the anime-characters them they won't be jrpgs anymore. And the reason why jrpgs have anime-characters is because people in japan grow up in a anime-like culture. Its not all about the western market you know japanese developers still need to sell in there home base.

Hmm, I can't find it at the moment but Hideo Baba I think it was said that the game would have some innovations and people should look forward to it. |
Thanks alot

Seeing a few JRPGs embrace the advances made by WRPGs over the past decade would be a very welcome addition to the genre. While I still like having some traditional JRPGs to play, having more character customization and some choice thrown into a few games would be great.

I wouldn't mind that either as long as they don't become WRPG clones

I wouldn't want that either. But playing what seems to be the same re-skinned JRPG over and over again is getting slightly old.

I disagree because I want to know my character as a person of his or her own personality. If characters are how they were in games like mass effect where the main character is actually me then it would rob me the joy of remembering that character.

I wouldnt expect much innovation from any console jRPG this gen. Maybe some minor changes here and there, but nothing big.
FF has already taken the right direction with XII and I dont see much they can change now. DQIX was meant to be different from previous DQ games, but fans didnt want it so its devs got rid of their new ideas, therefore it's safe to say that DQX will also be absolutely traditional. Versus XIII/KH I dont know what should they change, it works fine the way it is.
In short I think big jRPG franchises will not try to innovate because there is just no reason for them to (they sell well) Some small jRPG devs will probably try to make something new but their efforts will be ignored (as usual)
The only way the genre can change its direction is if some brand new innovative jRPG game appears and gets to the real commercial success. But this is not going to happen.

I think Tales Of Ten can do it, i just get that feeling it could.
