Forums - Nintendo - Let EA know your Dead Space dissapointment

(from other topic, seems more appropriate here.)

If Zack and Wiki 2 was a kart racing game, or No More Heroes 2 a Smash Bros style fighter I'd be pissed at that too. If they had made an actual dead space game on wii and then next year this arcade shooter with dead space on it, I'd be slightly more receptive.

Furthermore it's insulting to the wii. Instead of getting a genuine full length adventure it's getting another "pick up and play" title that can be beat in a sitting. It's like saying "no, no, no. The wii can't handle a third person shooter. We'll walk, and explore for you, this will be easier for the casual gamer to pick up and play with his buddies!" This isn't going to be somehow fundementally different from UC or HoTD. Resident evil 4 is getting very lonely representing the genre on the system after three years.

The reaction from the interwebs has been overwhelmingly bad. This was a poor move EA, very poor.

Badly rendered space zombies aren't scary. I support EA's decision in making a game where they can ramp up the visual (and scaryness) quality, by skimping on free-roaming, where many Wii owners are perfectly happy with the rail shooter arcade-style gameplay.

There were scary games before HD and teh cell. I'm sure they could make a game that looks at least as good as RE4.

The original System Shock was scary as heck.  You should go play it nowadays.  Even SS2 isn't so scary anymore, and it was on par or better, visually, than most games from last gen.

So, you and the whiners on this board know exactly what this game is and isn't already, without seeing or playing it and can fill the rest of us in on how its going to suck...and that EA are lazy tools.

Well, thanks so much for the enlightenment from all of you.  I wish the other hopefuls and myself had your foresight to know all this before the game gets a chance to prove itself one way or the other, so we could bitch too.  how rediculous.

the whole immediate "oh, its on rails?!? then it sucks" frame of mind really takes the cake too.  Like a really well done rails game with new ideas and direction would never be able to say, be kick ass, or earn game of the year...just because.

pitiful

Even when devs put effort, some people don't appreciate it.

Some people won't ever be satisfied.

Btw, IGN said the game was like House of the Dead.

Really a lot of Wii gamers are just getting on my nevers nowadays.  Just complaining about everything.  And it gives actual Wii gamers such as myself a pretty bad name and that pisses me off.  I mean a dev builds a game ground up, mature themes, and a hardcore franchise that is a survival horror.  Yet people complaing because it's not more like a port of the PS360 games  I mean am I the only one that doesn't see the hypocrisy in this.

I understand some people may be disappointed because they don't like light gun shooters or wanted something else.  That's fine but make sure you realize that you are the one with the problem with it.  Otherwise it's unnecessary complaining and unfair and unjustified to those who like the idea and the developers that created it.

The Vagabond speaks the truth. This is a little insulting to the Wii and Wii owners. Also, there WERE scary game before HD systems. It's like everyone forgot that there were good games last gen too. A new generation of systems does not automatically render the previous generation's games obsolete. I mean, we all saw the alleged clip of Dead Space on the original Xbox, right?

But I digress, this is an annoyingly complex chicken/egg situation. Publishers are afraid to put traditional adventure games on the Wii, and a it seems like a lot of traditional gamers have abandoned/don't support the Wii.

I think this generation of consoles is a big transitional phase. The apparent expansion of the market has caused a fallacious hardcore-vs.-casual rift. The Wii doesn't get enough games that do justice to the control possibilities. The HD systems don't get enough controls that do justice to their games.

My hope is that next gen, this rift will be less apparent. I wish game systems were more like dvd players. I might buy artsy-fartsy indie movies, and you might buy an action movie, but we're both enjoying movies, and there are movies for everyone.

I finished Dead Space on the PS3 in 2 days. That's NOT a genuine full lenght adventure.

This is a good point too. Discussing opinons turns into nonstop complaining pretty damn quickly. I'd like to soften my earlier comment...

Sure, I would have liked this version of Dead Space to be a free-roaming adventure, but that's me. If I don't feel like buying a rail-shooter, then maybe I shouldn't buy this one.

I no longer expect every single game to be an end-all, be-all, life-completing entity (a game hasn't done that for me since Ocarina of Time ... maybe Half Life 2).

People like to discuss their preferences, and that's cool. That's what forums are for. But not every company is going to cater to my personal preferences with every single game. As a Wii owner since the beginning, I often feel snubbed that my favorite genres aren't always given the spotlight, but that's life. I buy the games I like, and ignore the ones I don't. Who knows? Maybe my tastes will soon become the niche minority. I'll still play games, and still love the ones I play.

I recently got a 360 too, and do you know what? I don't want every single game on the 360! Dead Rising is supposed to be pretty good ... I don't care for it. I've played it and it's just not for me. And that's ok. I can't get mad at Dead Rising for not being something it's not.

I did it in an overnighter. And I'm a Huge item whore who was also trying to get a bunch of trophies.
