They named thimselves after him, because his name is synonymous with amazing futuristic groundbreaking scientific wonders, and that's what they want us to think about when we think of their cars.

It's Mark Twain on the right. I don't know who's on the left.
The Wikipedia article says Tesla, Twain, and Bertha von Suttner (first woman to get the Nobel Peace Prize) team up to fight Edison and some others, and try to bring about world peace. I'm not sure who the other 2 fists of science are.
