I'm talking about having the content already on the game disc and basically having to pay for this content via "downloadable content."

@JaggedSac a specific game wasn't mentioned.

 Actually yes, I'm just going with it til a mod decides to lock one.

Pixel Art can be fun.

this is already in practice and it's frankly bullshit.

 I think downloadable content in general is bullshit for the sole reason that I never feel like I paid for the full game.  Anyway, it's nice to see it confirmed.

You're rumour is alittle off since its not something that MS themselves have suggested - It's developers

I have not heard of that, or are you talking about what they did with Gears 2.

Gears 2 came with a download code that enabled you to get 4 or 5 extra horde maps. Those maps did not ship with the game, but were free to download. It is a one time code, and this I think it was just to cut down on the resale market of the game.

no they said that they might start because they r sick of used game sales.supposedly people were buying gears 2 used the first day it came out

Well when I bought it.  I got a download code for maps that came in the case.

So they did not just start it, the plan had to be there for a while.  Cause I got a copy on release day.  They later added some achievements for those maps though.

How's it different from paying for downloadable content later on? At least this way you don't have to waste time downloading.

I'm sorry, I just hate the feeling of never buying the full game..

Pixel Art can be fun.

Nintendo has also done it with Professor Layton.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Ironically, anything companies do to prevent used game sales or piracy will almost immediately be reverse engineered, hacked and cracked by gamers and distributed free online. They're inadvertently creating a larger market for piracy then would otherwise be there in the first place, because people go online to search why the hell their copy is missing map packs or the code isn't working and thus stumble upon pirate versions.

Yeah, I don't disagree that it sucks have to pay for downloadable content later on (especially when it's something as stupid as horse armor) but if you bitch about this you might as well just bitch about downloadable content in general.
