Forums - Nintendo - Destructiod sticks up for Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop

I am more and more inclined to think that the issue is more with the programmers than with the system.

Capcom's attitude toward the Wii (at least its US operations) has been akin to that of an HD fanboy (Yes, Sven, I am looking at you). Plus, no matter what they seem to do, they almost never pull it off successfully.

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

I only need to look at these two videos to know that Capcom failed in the way they ported Dead Rising.

Yeah that about sums it up.

It's still missing that video with super-awful animations though.

The Hitman video is using an illusion of that many. They aren't really moving either, just doing a couple stock movements. And as soon as you start mowing them down, whole clusters disappear.

As for the tunnel driving, it could be that they just look still because you are moving so fast. Let's see someone driving at a lower speed. If the zombies are still not moving, then it's a screw up.

Your post is rather funny considering in the PS2 video you can actually see them moving (while you say the opposite). And then you ignore the fact that the Wii video has mostly non-moving characters (the car isn't moving so fast that you wouldn't see movement).

Even worse than the enemy statues are the awful animations and bad collision detection (quite visible in some parts of those videos).

It's not supposed to be a straight port of the first game, but most stupid A-holes can't see that. so they compare it to the original. I don't care if it sucks or not, but I hate to see idiots trash this REMAKE because it's not like the 360 game.

Trash it for having shitty production values & whatever else is wrong but not because it doesn't have as much zombies as the 360 game.

@SUPABRETT

Chill out bra//I do agree with you//a lot of people are comparing it to the 360 version//which in most cases a completely different game//a lot of people don't see that//I'm buying it regardless.

1. I did not claim they were not moving at all. Just that you had stock movements. They just walk around until you start shooting, while most run off screen, and a few random just crouch down. That is not even enough to be considered AI.

2. Nor did I claim you can't see movement at all, just that you go by so fast, it's hard to see any movement (shambling, not walking, remember). Just claiming it's not that fast isn't good enough. We are not seeing that part of the game for more than a few seconds. Heck, in GTA, you drive fast enough, and pedestrians can even appear to move more slowly since you zip by them before they can even take a step. It's a form of the doppler effect.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Dead Rising is one of those games that just can not be done with Wii because its lack of power.

Agreed. The extra horsepower of the 360 version facilitated a level of ambiance that makes the Wii version pale in comparison. In terms of gameplay, you're strait-up killng more zombies in the 360 version. So it's not just visuals.

- "If you have the heart of a true winner, you can always get more pissed off than some other asshole."

There's no question Capcom didn't invest heavily into this title, they aren't expected much in sales (500,000) and are selling it at a budget price ($40) so why does anyone expect it to be RE4 good?

I only care about one thing as far as DR:CtYD in concerned - is it FUN? If it's fun then I'll get it. At least, assuming it's more fun than the 360 version which is cheaper.

I'm sure it probably doesn't deserve all the negative hype that it gets just like Wii Music. Fanboys are rabid but most important unjustified. But as I always say any kind of hype, whether positive or negative, usually is unjustified.

Personally I didn't like the 360 version of DR becuase it was slow and aggravating but I can see how others would like it. Thus I really haven't looked into the Wii version that much because I never planned on buying it. But, I know I'm a little better than most, because I won't give a silly biased and completely unjustified opinion on it just for the sake of trying to break someone or something down for my own personal self-interest.

But I'm glad some of these guys in the media are starting to call out these rabid haters on the internet because they need to be called out. Why I back Sean Maelstrom so much.

The problem is, it shouldn't have been a port. It should have been built up for it.

If the game was specialized for the Wii hardware, they could have made the exact same game for Wii as the final 360 product.

This game is the perfect example of why porting games always sucks for the portee.
