its never too late. even if they get third place, they can surely get a lot of sales if sony finds something big

My only thought is that if Sony dropped the price by $50 or $100, how many more consoles would they need to see to get to the numbers they are now? Sony can do nothing right now in terms of changing price, they are royally screwed.

All they can do is release great games in hope that it forces many to purchase the console, sadly the only system seller I see on the PS3 is GT5. :/

Its not too late at all. Once the price gets cut this fall, I'm guessing $100, it will start to really sell well, probably upwards of 300k a week

I think Sony will hold out on a price cut as long as they can.
For the most expensive console it really is not doing that bad.

The PS3 is fine. Sony should bundle or something else creative right now to give more bang for the buck and cut in the fall before the holidays.

I hate trolls.

Systems I currently own:  360, PS3, Wii, DS Lite (2)
Systems I've owned: PS2, PS1, Dreamcast, Saturn, 3DO, Genesis, Gamecube, N64, SNES, NES, GBA, GB, C64, Amiga, Atari 2600 and 5200, Sega Game Gear, Vectrex, Intellivision, Pong.  Yes, Pong.

that^   plus the 360 just had a price cut and it did not really blow the PS3 out of the water which is a good sign.

It's good for Sony that the sales are low. The more that sell, the more they lose. This way they can stay on the market long enough for it to become profitable, so they can prove to their shareholders that keeping it on the market was worth it. Remember what David Reeves said, they had convinced the company that they want to stay in this business, in other words, some portion of the company wanted to drop the PS3.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

its a hard pill to swallow but like eveyone is saying a price drop right now wouldnt do anything !
the one shot they had was to drop the price when 360 did ,but nothing!
which gave the 360 an outstanding lead over the ps3

@RPG yes all they can do IS make good games ! but all those good games are in devolopment FOREVER and people are getting bored of waiting while the 360 is spitting out good titles every month

While a price drop will spur sales its not 100% certain its enough. Its ignorant to think that and obviously anyone that thinks without a doubt that a price cut will put the PS3 ahead of the 360 (In total numbers) isn't looking at worst case scenario let alone what will actually happen.

The 360 price cut wasn't just any price cut. It was a price cut to get it to mass market level. a $299 still isn't mass market. and with Sony announcing they plan to make a profit sometime in 2010 ... if a price drop is due soon they are only going to make bigger losses.

and please no *Sony is bringing out so and so chip, bringing costs down* Sony have said THEMSELVES, they will not make a profit on the PS3 this year. This could be due to a price cut, making the PS3 sell at a loss (still) but in my eyes it would be a stupid choice, the PS3 is selling OK. It just looks worse when compared to YOY stats and Wii and 360 numbers.

Don't tell me we wouldn't be having the same discussion if by somehow the market grew so big the Wii sold a million the 360 800k and the PS3 400k.
