Forums - Nintendo - Will the Wii ever get a decent WRPG title?

Well i think there could be a chance of some sort of WRPG game on the Wii, probably not from the Folks at Betsheda or Obisidian/Bioware since they mainly PC devs that port stuff on the new consoles.

But what about smaller studios, those that have been bringing out great titles in the past but became shut down. Interplay for example ( i know they lost most of their talent) but Wii for them should be a chance of a comeback, because of lower development costs and the lack of Wrpgs on this console, but i think we wont see anything interesting soon, but i do have some hope for the future.

Good thing is my compute is quite powerful so i will be able to play all big WRPG's in next 3-4 years anyway (If i have time ,still havent completed Fallout 3 lol)

well since i will have monster hunter 3 and valhalla knights wii i don't give a damn about wrpg as long as they won't make a postapocaliptic wrpg for wii.

WRPGs will come to the Wii when/if it hits a minimum of 60% marketshare in Europe/America. Until then, they will stay on the HD consoles, because the Wii sales won't justify a Wii-based WRPG until then.

Nailed it down to an exact percentage number, did you?

Yep.  I know these things.  Every number I say should be taken as hard fact... because I know all, and I state my opinion oops I mean facts relevant to the thread topic.

If you accepted the truth, maybe you could learn to chill, rather than trolling.

These are the closest games to a true RPG I could find for the Wii, but none of them quite get there.

Valhall Knights: Eldar Sega -- Appears to be the real thing but it's a single player action RPG. It seems that it's going to be released in Japan first so it may end up being yet another JRPG (if it were a traditional RPG, wouldn't they release it in the west first?)

Monster Hunter 3 -- May not be comming to NA and does not appear to be a traditional RPG either, but does look like fun. It is made for the Japanese market so who knows how many traditional RPG elements it will contain.

Dynamic Slash -- Not really sure how this game is going to turn out.

Numen -- Seems like a traditional RPG light. I'll probably end up getting it.

Call for Heros -- Looked really cool until I saw the reviews. Ported game, but it's a port from a PC game so the port may be ok. Not really a traditional RPG either because you are limmited to Warrior or Barbarian only.

Kizuna / Golden Bonds -- Not sure about this one. The graphics are odd.

Let's hope. I don't particuly like RPG but I know that a good console should have good RPG...

Isn't overlord a decent wrpg?

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

I find it strange how many people seem to think it will not. The leading console always gets some of everything, and the Wii is the leading console.

The question is not if, but how many (or few), and somewhat a question of when.

Some of us actually like to consider the logical possibilities of it by looking at the companies who make WRPGs rather than relying on platitudes.

You mean how companies always stick to the exact same genre every single game and never make anything new?  Like how High Voltage Software is still making licensed crap....oh wait.

Or how Bioware will only make games for the high end systems and never something like the DS....oh wait.

Or how HD games like Dead Space are not allowed to be ported to Wii....oh wait.

Or how assuming things can't change like Sony dominating the console race....oh wait.

I haven't mentioned HVS or even talked about them.  I don't even know if they are capable of producing non-crap yet as Conduit is unreleased.  Right now they're just a developer with a lot of talk and a crappy track record.

Bioware's efforts in Mass Effect's console version were disappointingly buggy and their Sonic DS game was also apparently disappointing.  To me, Bioware is a PC developer first and foremost and all their other works on other platforms will be lacking for it.  PC is where they shine.

The last two things here strawmen.  Have fun knocking them down.  Go waste someone else's time if you want to do that.
